I was doing some much needed straightening up since I couldn't find the dining room table. I found a couple copys of Custom Rodder. May 1959 and November 1960. Some real cool shit. The May one has mostly ass draggers and an article called "Is the tranmission necessary?" The other one has a killer Olds powered deuce roadster owned by Parker Scherrer of Lakewood Ohio. And a 34 A Fuel coupe with a Hemi That held the AHRA class record. This was the Myers-Malone special Owned by Whitney Myers and Bob Malone out of Wichita, Kansas. Issue includes an easy how to on recessing your antenna by Darryl Starbird.
BTW these are the little magazines and only have about 65 pages.
I also found a 57 and 59 J.C. Whitney catalogs.
Cool stuff, I just had to tell someone.

I buy old mags whenever they are on the cheap, just for reading, I don't really collect them. I think these may be the oldest I have. I got them at a swap meet a couple months ago and they got buried thus forgot about for a few months.

I bought a Hotrod and Rod'n'Custom from '57 the other day. Found a picture that made me finally decide how I want to do the seats in my car. I love reading adds from back then too. Seeing things like tri carb intakes for a Chev 6 for $6.95.

Hi Tommy, I happened to see an old post of yours on H A M B. You had mentioned seeing an article on Parker Scherrers 32 ford roadster. I remember this car as a kid. He was always back and forth from California to Westlake Ohio where he had the car on permanent display in the window of Adams Auto trim. The Building had been the old original Studebaker dealership and had the front display room where the car sat while he was in the army and traveling around. I do have a picture of my self sitting in this car as it sat out in front of the shop one day. As a 12 year old, the car was all that I could think about. Several years later he did eventually sell the car locally. Last time I saw it the new owner had it displayed down town Cleveland at a custom auto show. I thing I remember prying the price pad for the car from the new owner. Parker had been to embarrass to tell me what it had sold for. I think the new owner told me something like $2500 about 1964 or so. The car was also featured in the December 1960 issue of hot rod magazine page 66 and 67. I always wondered where the car ended up. Last time I saw Parker it was about 1968 in a well known department store in Rocky River Ohio. I did end up making a kit model to look just like his car down to the frenched exhales,6 two barrel carburetors and purple paint. As I recall every time he was home on leave, he would take the car out to the locale drag strip and break something. Nice car. Tony

Magazines and books will bury you! In information, in dreams, in realities, in fantasy, in exercise for the mind and soul.
My wife sees my 20+ boxes of magazines and shelves and boxes and stacks of books and sees clutter and problems, all I see is fun, entertainment, and education.
