A new toy

I asked over the weekend about an s10 frame swap for a 46 Ford... Well here are some photos of the car. I am thinking of splitting the grill in the middle for a kind of 41 ford front look, not sure why but I dig it. Anyway here are some pics of some mock up work

Here I am trying to make that center look right, all it took was some string and a straight edge. But I don't have the photos of it done yet

And this is the goal. My step dad built this car back in like 93-94 So he has the plan of attack on how to chop mine down.

Yeah he sold it a while back and has gone through 3 other cars since. He use to be in a club with Ketch's dad. here is another shot of the ass of his car, man these are the best looking chops if you ask me.

Well, the way we have it drawn out is: 3 up front, 4 1/2 in back. Trust me when we go into cutting it up I will just about film the process. I am about as stoked as you can get about doing it.

Isn't that how you get mail slots for windows? I thought about going more but the way it sits with the 3 by 4 1/2 looks perfect. We know a guy that did it lower and it didn't look smooth to me of course he did it at like 5 all around and that made the back sit to high.

That is a very worthy goal you have set. The chop proportions of your stepdad's car are perfect (in my opinion). Find yourself a '42 hood, that way you don't have the abrupt end of the hood belt when it gets to your new grill split. Watch for the Door Gaps, Truck Lid Gaps, Etc... They kill your enthusiasm.. Trust me, We choped this last summer..

I know that in order to get the front looking right you have to pie cut thewindsheild corners and twist the post inward while the doors are attached to get the front looking right. At least that is what my dad and his buddy are saying. They are old school original guys, graduated school in the 50's.

Twisted Okie has a 46 tudor sitting on an S10 chassis in his shop if you want to make a trip to Enid to look at it. He is just getting started so you can see where he had to trim. It's a good fit. PM me if you need contact numbers.

Don't know if this might help but, if you check in one of the first few issues of Rolls & Pleats, Jerry gets Lance McCormick(spelling??) to chop the top on his 46-48 ford. Lance McCormick (he has a sweet chopped merc called Planet Voodoo in the UK) used to be a body man for Rolls Royce or sumthin and leaded the chop...pretty sweet looking chop and good pics in a how to article.

A '42 hood is not the same as a '46-48?

And won't that be hard to track down? A 42 hood? I think that since they stopped production in 42 that would make the hood a high dollar option.

I just put an ad on the FordBarn, had a couple of responses and picked one on my way to Detroit last year, I think I gave him $80 and a radiator shroud.

They are not the same, they don't have the center "belt", they are split but smooth like a '41, but wide enough to cover the tops of the fenders, same side trim as a 46. I'm gonna lay a 3/16" rod down the split and peak mine, and blend the peak into the top bar of the grill. The original center part looks kinda like a zit on a forehead to me, my $.02

I like the plans with your split grill. I have to give you some sympathy. Yes you guessed it, I know your step dad. His sled was one kool ride, where is the car today? Good luck with the project and keep us informed with your progress.

Yeah we came up for the Stray Cat show, man I love that show. The last that he had heard is that it has been sold like 4 times since he got rid of it. I came across a web site with his car on it and some big long B.S. story about how it was an original Barris built car from the 50's, I laughed my ass of and told the guy that although it was built by a George his last name was not Barris, then I sent him pics of "his" car being built and the next thing I knew his sight disapeared, that was I think before the last guy that bought it. I don't know the code for the paint but it is called Hawian Orchid. The code is long lost and now just a memory.

Oh and on the hood... I know what you are talking about and the plan there is to cut and fill that part that comes down and reposition the style line into the top of the hood before it turns down. I hope that comes across correctly. I am sure that you people familiar with the 46-48 hoods will understand. Plus I will post the tech on it when we do it... well maybe not a tech but at least some "wow lookey what I did this weekend" photos
