ok guys, i know us cheeseheads will be running at W.I.R. in kakauna wisconsin this year, GG indy and also MoKan... Tulsa is a happinin place as the center of the HA/GR world (altho us Frozen Tundra types are working on changing that :p )

anyone have a more complete list of independant tracks or ones that will let us run?

might be kinda fun to have regional invitationals throughout the season and end up at MoKan for the HAMB drags for a nationals shootout?

just thinking out loud

Sounds like an excellent idea.

Here's a link to what looks to be a pretty good directory, of dragstrips in the USA and a few more places around the world.

http://www.dragcars.com/html/drag_strips.html

I bet there are more than a few places to run.

the NHRA tracks are pretty well out of the picture from the sounds of Ron's thread... i wonder what IHRA has to say about these cars

Tulsa is IHRA and we never had a problem.
The only problem we ever had was at Indy(NHRA),they told us we had to have the battery in a fully enclosed box,but they didn't stop us from running. The next year it was in a box.
But keep in mind we were exhibition only and not running in a class.

hmmm now THIS, might be the loophole we're looking for?

get with track owners and agree to run on their tracks "exhibition" style, and keep the results to ourselves? five or six different tracks per "region" during the summer and the "nats" at MoKan? just thinking out loud here... definatly worth looking into, especially out west in cali where them guys are playing hell finding someplace to run.

Hell.......we're all a bunch of exhibitionists anyway.:D

"Hello, little girl, would you like a walnetto?"

makes me think of "chicken in black" but kinda demented and sad...

"No Ma'am, I'm the Manhattan flash"

walnetto indeed :D

kinda like painting "Free candy" on the side of a panel van

Fomoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA is having a nostalgia race this spring and they are bending the rules to allow HA/GR cars to run. After reading the comments in the forum it appears like they bought additional insurance to make this happen.

I'll call Rob Park and get his feelings about the same happening in his division. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Ron, a million thanks for all the legwork you're doing here... i know that greatlakes dragaway in union grove wisconsin has what they call the "time machine nationals" in late august of every year... its an NHRA track, but who knows... i can make a phone call or two and see what they say about exhibition runs with the HA/GR cars... cant hurt to ask like Ron says.

just kinda makes me wonder if NHRA really DOES understand what these cars mean to the sport, and the blocking of the class is just a "screw you all if we cant make a buck off these cars" sort of a deal... in another 4 years or so when these cars are all over the place and people start ASKING track owners to invite us in (as is the rumor some tracks are already hearing this) ... well, we'll see. speculation is just that, a spectacle

Fiddy,
Cowboy Bob did take his Ha/Gr car to Union Grove, WI last year, and had no trouble passing tech. Will check about any particulars, but don't know of any.

2B, was that on one of the "fun run" nights they have?

I believe it was on a regular race week-end, it was on a Sunday. He just went to test & tune. We were going to go to the "Time Machine Nationals" but Cowboy Bob had just crashed at MoKan and was still down. I wish that we would of just to see if we would of been allowed to run.

I'm bringing this thread back up because the question "Where can I run one of these?" is a very important question. If this style of racing is going to grow (or even survive), this question must be answered. Current Owners and current Builders: Please respond here. Let us know where you have ran your HA/GR down the track, or where you plan to run. We are spread out so far geographically, we have to spread the word on where to run.

The Speed Merchants HA/GR has run at MO-KAN Dragway and Tulsa International Raceway. I'm sure there are many more tracks where we could have run (in the middle of the USA), but i haven't comfirmed the facts. Where do you run?

Cordova Raceway in Il. were very happy to see us!!!

Our local track wouldn't have a problem. Good enough for the 'Lynch Mob' should be plenty of traction for a gas rail!

SoKal currently has six 1/4 mile venues that are running HA/GR. Five at Famoso/Bakersfield (the four ANRA meets & Dragfest) and one at Fontana (the Antique Nats). We've run'em all.

There are a couple 1/8 mile tracks that may but haven't been tried as yet.

Now I'm going to bitch a bit , so whiners & cowards please don't bother reading further.

Rant on .........

Gentlemen (that term used loosely here), at this point there are but two running cars here so it's still very much a "chicken & egg" thing. It WILL take some more folks with the cajones to build in order to get it out to the public. And ONLY public interest (and their attendant money) will bring NHRA interest, if you feel the need for that.

Those of you waiting for the class to be firmly in place are doing NOTHING to get it there. Folks, there'd BE NO no drag racing at all had we waited for the sport to be officially recognized before we built cars. THIS sport's answer to the "chicken & egg" question is resoundingly EGGS !!(please note the plural, it's quite intentional). So wrest control of your lives back into your own hands, stop crying about the lack of a sanctioned sandbox and BUILD what you want to play with. The sandbox will follow in due course. As for the rest of the world, those that are lemmings will follow along eventually. They always have and they always will, marvelling at what bolder folk have done before them.

OK, rant off ...........

:o I do tend to run on a bit at times, but it stands.

Old6.......you can cure the running on by cleaning the carbon and leaning the idle mixture a bit.:p

Don't worry, our EGG is coming together, which brings to mind a story about "Rabbit Eggs", but I'll save that for another time. Hell, if the tracks won't let us run, we'll just have to find a nice back alley, but we're gonna run this thing.

Bob Hindman, Roy Merritt and our car ran last weekend at KCIR. We had a blast and the people showed a lot of interest in the cars. I'm sure we'll be welcome back.
