The question pertains to the mid 80's XJ6 but I'm open to all years and models.
Are the parts unique to Jag or are the brakes, as Ive heard rumored, actually GM?
Does anyone have info on adapting to a F100?
I think the Jag uses Ford bolt pattern. Whether it's GM calipers or not I don't know.
Just guessing but there's a good chance it's got Saganaw steering, lots of "smaller" cars do.
"Chopper" John ran a how-to in Kustom Rodder on installing one of them a year or so ago. http://www.kustoms.com.au/ I saved the how-to pictures some where but I can't find them at the moment.
Basically you reproduce the mounting brackets on your frame and bolt it on.

My '91 Jag XJS rearend has 4 3/4" Chevy pattern. The calipers are Jag. There ain't a metric part on it....the pig is Dana 44.
Oh yea, It's Volvo has the Ford pattern...My bad... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

SJF: thanx for the info.
Dr J: Yeah I know about the Volvo (own 2 of them) but somewhere I remember reading that Chevy calipers were used on the Jag before Ford took them over. The tranny is a GM in the 80's so maybe other parts are also. I'll check out the link.
Hmm. Lost of wild guesswork there, guys.
Lots of correct statements too.
The Jag Bolt pattern up matches most Chev, at 5 on 4.75", but uses 1/2" (Ford size) studs, whereas Chev use 7/16" (I think).
Later Jags, (S-Type and new aluminium bodied XJ) have a different (smaller) bolt pattern, cant say if it's like Ford though. X types are smaller still, might be 4".
Earlier Volvo's, Amazon and the like, have the Ford 5 on 4.5" pattern, but later cars 140's, 240's etc have a bastard 5 on 4.25" pattern.
Jag brakes are basically Jag brakes, Axles are Dana, or GKN Salisbury, very similar if not identical to Dana, and Jag did use GM transmissions, Turbo 400's and later 4L80E's but the bellhousing bolt pattern does not match any USA pattern, but is the same as Rolls Royce, who also used the box and shared tooling costs with Jag.
Mart.

Mart....Correctamundo on the wheel studs. Chevs are 7/16" while the Jags are 1/2". I know because I had to order new nuts to mount my Salt Flats.

Thanks Mart for the update.
Over here the late (89-96) rwd Volvos' used the Dana 30 rear which is the same as the Ford 8.8. Also all SAE hardware and wheels fit the Ford pattern, aka as the 1031 axle. Ive put Taurus wheels on my wifes 940.
Before '89 the Volvos used a metric copy of the Dana, made in Sweden and not as strong, aka as the 1030 axle. My 84 240 with the SBC is strictly metric but it takes the relatively stock power just fine.
Either will be perfect width under a Model A, Deuce and anything else needing a 54" flange to flange rear. The drawback is that being a Dana style its a major chore to change gears. However, Ive found most to be either 3.73 or 4.10 which would be real fun behind a T5 or other OD box.
The US Volvo is assembled in Maryland with a high percentage of USA made content. I dont kow what they have done with the EU versions but the Swedes use the rears in rods and on the drag strip.
Another feature is that discs were standard on the higher end cars and optional on others. A LSD was also optional and was a standard on the cold weather package.

If you need help send Paul at Burnham Autos in the UK a email - he sticks these front ends under trucks/shoeboxes all the time...

Good link, thanx. Since I have a 43 1/2 ton it has opened up a nice possibility.
Now what I also need is dimensions as well as some pix of 48-56 Ford pickups.
