here's my plan for the car...
shave the emblems, fin insert, scripts
make(?) bubble skirts
58 impala roof scoop, and maybe bumper
56 lincoln steering wheel,56/57 lincoln hubcaps, 57 lincoln trunk emblem
grill like a 53/54? kaiser, painted candy pink w/starburst floating in the center
lowered w/ white walls
paint like stuff watson did for barris.... white pearl with pink flake and gold outlines
and those stars i mentioned in my intro here and there....
so that's "the plan"...

I like yer plans for it ,espescially how you're doing the side trim.I've seen way too many 57's with "belair" side trim, and have allways felt they looked good with less,or none at all.

Huh? I've owned a ton of '57 Chevies and I've never had to add a piece to the fenders to make the skirts work...explanation pleeze.

PS, the ideas look good, but I'm thinkin' you're gonna have a tuff time finding some of those parts...

If you're talking to me Doll, wanna point me in the right direction? I'm still a bit confused from adding a piece to the '57's fenders.
Can't you make it a little less like a treasure hunt?

OK, call me dense but I get it now.
When you stated you had to add a piece to the fenders, I assumed you were adding a piece (of something) to the rear fenders of the car...somehow.
What you should have said was that you need to add a piece of the fender skirt to the rear doors...and cut thru the skirt so you can open the door.. Is this correct?
Man o man, it's hard on my ESP when I don't get things right the first time around.

that wasn't my first idea, but that would work too...
i was thinking more along the lines of just moving the skirts back a few inches to clear the door, then filling the little gap...

OK Josie, but from an artist's point of view (that'd be me!!!), that's gonna change the entire look of the rear...a fender skirt usually is centered over the wheel, save for a bubble skirt...and it looks better (IMHO) if it's forward of the wheel opening ...gives it a moving-while-standing-still look. If you cut off the wheel well by adding a section to it and moving the skirt back, the skirt will look like it's "slipping" toward the back of the car...from an eyeball perspective, it'd look odd...and might make changing a flat tire a problem.
I think you're better off adding the bubble skirt to the car in it's normal mounting, and then cutting the door opening straight down...hiding the dog leg of the door. You'll have a minor problem trying to figure out how to attach the trimmed skirt piece to the door but since it'll be fiberglas it won't weigh a lot, and when painted to match the car, the door opening will go away.
Is that your '57 in the pic with the trailer? Or have we seen the one you own yet?

<font color="green">Did you ever figure those stars out?
Perhaps they never came on cars?
Maybe they were on boats or some other oddball thing I can't think of.
If you're wanting to run three of some sort of emblem, take a look at the emblems on the rear pillars of 60-61 Ford Starliners.
I've always liked those.
I bet they aren't cheap either.
Anyway, start looking around at things other than cars for ideas.
Old appliances had some pretty cool emblems on them.

Have you checked Nite Prowlers in Missouri for those bubble skirts? Buying them would be easier than making them unless you know a good metal smith or someone good with 'glas. They may have that '58 roof scoop as well...
The Lincoln wheel will have to have the center (column splines) cut out of it and a Chevy center tig-welded in to make the steering wheel work. The hubcaps are just a matter of finding them...so are the stars.
The '58 bumper is flatter and a bit squarer than the '57's...and the bumper ends are smoother...the "bullets" that you've got stars in on your drawing is not on a stock '58 bumper, unless you're going to adapt the '57's "bullets" to the '58 bumper...Can't figure out what type of grill you're going for in your drawing, can you explain that one to me pleeze?

hey, I just moved to Livermore. Is the Rambler parked over on P street next to a 53 chevy? I drove by that dirt lot today. I know I've seen your 57 around town. Glad to see you made it to the HAMB.

That'd work if you use the stock '57 end pieces...you'll have to cut the '58 bumper (narrow it) to fit between the stock end pieces and probably figure out some new bumper irons(hangers/brackets).
Might be easier to build the grille out of aluminum if you plan on painting it...finding one of those will be next to impossible. Besides, that opening shape doesn't lend itself well to a '57 grille opening...not only that, but you've still got to figure out where to put park lites/turn signals.
I assumed you'd already found the "stars"...I figured they were '57 Lincoln...I think the Lincoln hubcaps have stars in them. Oh yeah, wait, '57/'58 Pontiacs used some type of star on the side of some models.

there was one of those grills on ebay for $59, and it was broke... i figured the grill would just have to be made anyways.... on the 2nd pic, where the stars are on the front bumper ends, i want to put the turn signals behind them... the stars don't come off of any of those... the ones i want have 8 points.

A 57 Buick grill fits right into the 57 Chevy opening without any modifications and looks the same as your drawing except it's convex rather than concave... looks real cool too. Question....where do you find one....dunno.

You have some good ideas. The grill in your picture is a kaiser grill. Came from the style that had the heart shaped windshield. I'm not sure from which year. I had one in a little 52 Chevy that was a knock off of the grapevine. It probably would be easier to make one then find a good one.

The star you want for your grill, can be found on lincoln premiere trunks lids. 57 models. (very similar). theres a keyhole in the center, but it could probably be covered with a little cone bullit.. also, its some smaller ones on the doorsides in them, maybe better to use. But you know that... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
