I got a 40 ford steering column with my coupe when I got it... and I'm going to use a speedway column and U joints and then the 40 box.... the only problem is the thing has got quite a bit of play in it....
BobBleed told me it could be rebuilt.... who would I go to for parts?
Do I just get a good box and use it for parts?

bttt for the night guys....
I'm impatient.
Tell ya what I'm gonna do . . .
I'll put together the inspection, rebuild, and service instructions from the upcoming Vern Tardel steering booklet and make a Tech Week post of it. Give me about an hour.

ohboy!ohboy!ohboy! That's great, Mike. I'm putting a '40 box in the r-p/u. Someone up your way had his restored '40 convert "street rodded" awhile back. His builder tore out the box, column, shifter and steering wheel and told him he wouldn't be needing it. The guy put it up on the Early Ford V8 website for a song, and I was the first (of about 150 eMails he told me) to respond. I blew it apart when it arrived and it has a brand new worm and shaft -- so I guess someone is repopping them. I'm looking forward to your instructions on how to dial it in. Thanks! And thanks for your nice words the other night about the firewall. It was an inspiration. Hoping to meet you at the TarMac pit in B'ville next week.

I've got a '40 box going in my '36 Humper. Prolly not before I leave for Bonneville tomorrow though. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Wayno

Congrats on the score on the steering. You gotta love the baby-out-with-the-bath-water additude in street-rod building. It makes for all manner of great deals like the one you received.
The steering service post is taking a bit longer than I'd planned because my picture-hosting server overhauled their site today and it's running like a wounded turtle right now. I still have hopes of getting this posted this evening, however.
