Has anyone tried a 6 volt radiator fan on their cars?
Do they draw too many amps on the original generators?
Any suggestions on types or installations to allow for an use of a 6 volt fan?

I'm not sure how a fan would work, but I use an electric 6v fuel pump on my Buick and it works flawlessly.

You really should run a dropping resistor. If you can hook your fan up to a 6V source & measure the current (amps) at full speed, you can figure out the resistance of the fan motor itself. Then you can use that figure to find a resistor that will work - of course, you'll need a very heavy duty resistor - you can use some simple math to figure out the wattage of the resistor required. Alternatively, you can run a potentiometer of the correct size & rating...

I am running a 6 volt fan, but I also have a 6 volt alternator. I have heard that you can run a 12 volt fan on a 6 volt system and it will run at about 2/3 speed. I didn't find this out until I had bought the 6 volt fan. If you are looking for a 6 volt fan, post a question over on www.fordbarn.com (http://www.fordbarn.com) and someone there can tell you who sells them. Mine seemed to do o.k. when I had the generator on it, but then the gen took a crap maybe because of the extra draw... advancing the timing on my flathead helped more than anything in regards to cooling.
