once again please. Removing paint from models?

How do you do it? I just attempted to spray a model I owe someone and the brand new can of paint turned out to be crap.

Soak it in brake fluid. no kidding

I know brake fluid works but I haven't tried it.

I usually soak them in Castrol Super Clean (known as the "purple pond"), it takes a day or so.

And I've also heard VERY good things recently about 91% alcohol you can get from a drugstore or something.

Bleach works fine. Just let 'er soak, and she'll be right as rain.

I have used my daughters nail polish remover, seemed to work the one time i did it.

I use EasyOff oven cleaner. It takes a few coats to get it done, but it doesn't hurt the plastic.

Easy Off oven cleaner works well also. Depending on the type and brand of paint, I had variable results but it might be worth a try. Just spray it and put it in a sealed container for a day.

I've found CSC works better than Easy off. Plus, my lungs don't feel like they're being dissolved with acid in case I breathe in some CSC as they do with oven cleaner...

I prefer a swim in Lake CSC myself. I've tried all the above, my second choice it Brake Fluid. Easy Off is great for very thick, newer model paints (new seems harder to strip than old paint jobs).. and I couldn't agree more about breathing it in... one good huff, and you'll want to DIE.

As for CSC, wear some gloves! It didn't make my hands burn at all, so I thought I was fine. Well, when I tried to wash up, it wouldn't come off! It took off the top layer of my skin though, and I thought my fingernails were never going to harden back up. Good shit, it'll strip enamels and lacquers easily...

Westley's and Castrol won't touch the new acrylic paints (water based) Brake fluid is great, but some really old plastics get brittle from it. I don't know why, but thats my experiance. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Has anyone tried these methods on other types of plastics, like a steering wheel?

I have a 39 Ford steering wheel and horn button that are very nice, except someone had painted them. I would like to get back to the original Ford color. Any thoughts? The horn button has a fine V-8 that I don't want to lose.

Well the stuff removes paint, but is gentle enough to not harm the plastic underneath...I dont see why It wouldn't strip paint from enything else.

Tell ya what....drive to Denton, I'll strip the paint for FREE, then you come back and get the model.

I heard that Flexicoker can remove the chrome from a trailer hitch ball, maybe he could help??
