Hey everyone! I am fresh and new! I have a 1950 dodge that is all original, including the engine. Right now she is primered and waiting for me to decide on a color. The inside needs to be put back together. There is not a whole lot that needs to be done, atleast not in my eyes. I do not like hot rods that are tricked to the hills with technology and the latest trends. I can appreciate a nice looking rod, but it just doesnt do anything for me. A nice looking traditional car just tickles me pink. Well thats probably enough for you all!
Sarah:)

nexxussian- the 1950 dodges have flathead inline 6's, if thats how you say it...i know its a flathead and i know its an inline 6. not many ponies. haha. but im not looking to roast the tires...so its good for me!

pir8 darryl- lucky for me someone already had swept me off my feet and put a ring on my finger... sorry. he's a gentlemen and doesnt really talk like my guy friends and brother do. go figure. :)

i will try and get a picture of the engine up somewhat soon josh. its nothing fancy or exciting.

Thanks, I wasn't sure when the Dodge brand went OHV. I understand the Flathead Dodges have good torque though. Supposedly liven up with a couple carbs and split exhaust (which oddly enough seems to be the case regardless of brand) or so I'm told.

When I was in A&P school (aircraft maintenance) we had an old aircraft tug that had a Chrysler Industrial 6 in it (looks just like your pics Ms Cobb), wouldn't go real fast, but I got the feeling if you could get a good enough hitch on it and enough traction that it would have pulled the building off its' foundation.

cobb- the wayfarer, coronet, and meadowbrook from 1950 have the same engine. mine is a meadowbrook. its still 6volt. someone told me that you dont have to re-wire the whole car and that there is just a few little conversion pieces?!?! right now i am getting the exhaust manifold ready to be hot tanked. the old one cracked. im keeping it original though, i pulled one off of a 49 coronet.

brandi and meatball- thank you for the welcome!! its hard being new and not really knowing anyone and sometimes girls can be catty and make it hard to really make friends!!! most of my friends are country and dont really understand why i got my dodge, but its something i have always wanted..so im putting myself out there and going balls to the walls! so here i am..

flatbroke- i could care less if someone rolls their eyes at my car just because it has four doors. i like it! it suits me and if it doesnt suit someone else thats their problem...not mine. but thanks for the welcoming! glad you like my car. ill post more pics once its dry so i can take her tarp off and that will probably be this weekend! woohoo!! finally!

i bought it from the original owner when i was 16, so going on four years now. i see you've done a lot of body work on yours. i'm about to start that soon. how did you get rid of the shelf where the front fender comes together?

yep sandy is a boxer.

i didnt do the body work. it was done by a body shop in portland,or. i bought it about 6 months ago from a friend who no longer wanted to finish her. thats when i swooped in and saved her!!! i had been watching my friend and waiting for the day he said he didnt have enough time. the body shop from what i know filled in all the trim holes around the bottom and dropped it two inches. most of what i have learned is from friends who do cars for a living and reading. you should put a posting up and ask for advice. there are a lot of people on here with great advice and lots of knowledge!!! i asked about sandy because i have a boxer too. her name is sasha and she is a brindle.

03-26-2008, 08:16 PM
thats a pretty sick looking meadowbrook!! i really like the black and white walls!! i have been thinking that i might do a flat black paint job until i decide on a final color. i havent decided if i want to go with an original color from that year or if i want to just do a custom paint job. my favorite color is pink and id love to incorporate it into the paint job somehow...my main goal right now is getting my exhaust manifold hot tanked and put on.

50Dodge: I've had 'er about a month and a half now. I bought it from my wifes cousin, his dad bought it in '60 from the original buyer, but the wifes cousin(chris) didn't do anything with it. So I concider myself the 3rd owner. Other than a repaint in the 70s she has never been restored! Completly original (minus paint). I do get that though, people around here when I'm driving it around ask me when it was restored, I love it because I get to smile and say "she a survivor, never has been resto'ed" and look on some of their faces is priceless.

Oh about the headlights at night...They work really good I haven't noticed them being any dimmer than anything else I've driven that doesn't have projector beams on it. If I get a chance here this weekend I'll try and go out in the country and get a shot of them in action (I'll have my wife or a friend take the pic as it would be unwise to do it while driving:eek::D) The only thing you will have to make sure is that your ampmeter works and that while driving when you are coming to a stop (light, sign, drunk in the road) that it doesn't drop to 0 or lower, and yes driving and just idling in the drive are different (ask me how I know:rolleyes:) Before I got it set right I was having dimming issues when coming up to stoplights and such. I have got'er set good now and she doesn't drop to 0 anymore and the lights don't dim, Yeah!

You should be able to find a fair selection at the swap meet. I got my 50 plate at one around here and it's SOOO much better than an antique plate if you ask me.

Welcome to the HAMB girl! I grew up with a 51 dodge wayfarer sportabout convertible in the garage beside my bedroom, a shame my dad sold the car in the early 80's.. it was a beauty!! I've been hooked on there body lines ever since, recently purchased a shell of a 50 dodge business coupe (or should I say whats left of it LOL) that was owned by my dad back when i was in diapers, But what I'm really looking to build is a 49 plymouth business coupe, a recreation of the original Ramchargers racing teams 1st car the "High and Mighty"..... Heres a post that I started that has a bunch of pics of the original car and a clone http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248285&highlight=hemifried I'll get some pics of the 50 up on here when I can convince mother nature we don't need any more snow and can get the car drug out of a huge snow bank and home

yes! actually i was outside working on my car today and i was getting some interior stuff laid out on a tarp and i saw a few drops of rain come down and within three minutes it was hailing and snowing..it went on for about 30 min or so and all the sudden it was gone and we had blue skies and sunshine! crazyness i tell you!! but then i got right back to work. speaking of interiors..anyone have any suggestions for door panels?? the old ones are not in the greatest shape. the metal part is, but the cloth parts of it are horrible.. anyone have any good ideas for inexpensive/easy fix?? same with the ceiling..any advice???

Welcome to the HAMB. I heard thru the grapevine there was another hot rod gal in the house so I wanted to stop by and say "hi". Keep us updated on your progress and when you have questions, just ask.

Here's what I've been working on for the last 7 years, just finshed this month.

Send the rain my way i'll take it with a smile, I got 5 feet of snow on my front lawn!!! LOL
The orignal H&M was dismantled in the early 60's after they stopped racing the car.. They did manage to find the original intake setup, tach and a few other items that they used on the clone. I've been doing a lot of scrounging trying to find parts info and a good solid car.... but for now i'm working on putting our 63 1/2 ranchero back together. I was hoping to have it finished for when the snows gone, but now i'm hoping the snows gone by the time its finished :eek:LOL

Hemifried- ill gladly send the rain your way, but i bet by the time it gets there it will be snow..hahaha!right now it has been some of the most unpredictable weather i have ever seen..rain one min, snow the next, hail the one after. its pure craziness! how long does the snow stay around up there? it should be spring here, but it still feels like winter!!!
why did they dismantle the H&M?? and good luck with the project!
