View Full Version : Started the Flattie On Sat! and exhaust ?
Well I followed the instructions I got on the HAMB and had some help from dv8 and Sinner....and the flattie started on Sat! This is the first time I anyone had heard this thing run. I just poured some gas in the carbs and hit the starter button and sputter sputter bang! I am pretty excited. I will be getting all of the fuel lines hooked up this coming weekend and maybe attatch the radiator hoses...and adjust the brakes...maybe if we have the time.
I did notice after I filled the fuel bowl on one of the 97's that it seemed to leak out of one of the jet access screws but that could have just been me spilling the gas all over I will have to see.
I was wondering about the DIY lakes headers that are in the speedway catalog....has anyone used them? Are they adjustble in any way? Or are the holes cut out already and you just weld them? The reason I ask is because I may have a clearance issue with my steering. One of the pipes coming off of the block may have to be routed differently. Does anyone have pics of what they did for this? I am not using u-joints for my steering.
Anyway I just figured I'd give an update on the T.

We're gonna shoot for having it presentable for the street rod nationals in October. That should be realistic. I think. When are the Nationals? Anyone know?

The Nats are Oct. 8-10. So what was the reason it didn't fire last week?
Well to start the battery was dead...we had to charge it. I wound up changing out the condenser and the coil. Then I got a spark. Hit the button and there it was. I'm gonna get some fittings for the fuel this week...and hopefully make short time of the fuel line. I think we'd all get a kick out of driving it around the yard. Making some of the temporary stuff more permanent is also an order.

What kind of car is this flattie in??
A CLOWN CAR!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It's a 26 T turtle deck roadster on an A frame, with a 34 chevy truck grill. It's on his avatar in an earlier stage.
This is kinda what it looks like now. If this image will post.
And a closer shot of the engine and the stupidity there.
And the other side. Just some update pics is all. Last one.

Did you paint the block white?!? At least it will be easy to find oil leaks... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Its looking good as best I can tell from the pics. Did Draglinks teach you how to use a camera? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
If I can ever get a break around the house, I need to get out to the ranch to help out. We've got 3" of standing water across the whole property right now, and the lake is about to be higher than the seawall. Needless to say I've spent a lot of quality time with fill dirt this week. Keep up the good work.

WOW!!!
You have come a long ways since we were hanging out there, mocking that thing up.
It's looking good man, must be hard to find time to work on all that with all the man love going on there!
RASHY
Bigums...you need to come down we need some of the witty rhetoric. The block is not exactly white....its more of a cream color. The car will be a cream/beige color with more of a marroon color on the the top part of the car. I also have some 1935 Ford spoke wheels that are going on it. As far as the pictures...Draglickscc set up the lighting in the shop...I was just using a regular camera.
Yeah Rashy...it has come a long way since you were over our way...you need to get over to Tampa again. I am looking to get alot more done this coming weekend...maybe to the point of actually driving the car!?!?
We definately could use someone down here that can sling bondo....for the finishing touches on the body...Tampa side? Anyone out there? Hollis? Walt? Sinner? Tiki? Bigums? Just wondering?

Don't get your drawers in a wad, I'll probably be there on saturday.
P.S. buy some bondo too.

MBL.congrats on hearing the ancient v/8 roar. I checked out your photos and your steering looks identical to my old Rocky 33, in relation to the exhaust. I used an old generic pair of 35-53 ford headers and I had to make a new tube between the front and the center ports. I used a few bends from a discarded piece of old curved exhaust pipe.
I use to have photos of my handiwork but lost them in a computer crash. It's not scary at all, in fact, I used an old exhaust manifold as a jig! Just bolt all your pieces to the manifold, clamp the manifold in your vice and bridge the gaps with tubing. It worked for me.
Like the idiot that I am I posted a separate thread on this as you were probably typing....but maybe some more will see it in a more directed sense. I am looking to bring the exhaust out in one of those cones. Is that what you did?
