my 48 olds eight has a hydro I am just running the shift arm off the trans. do I need the other arm? what does it do? I have been told it ties in with the throttle. Do I actually need it? thanks for any info drew

Yes, you need the other arm. It connects the carb. linkage to the throttle valve in the transmission and helps control shift points and firmness. Without it, you're probably up-shifting too soon, and the tranny's probably slipping. The early hydro's need a lot of "throttle pressure" at low speeds.

Good luck on finding the correct arm and other linkage if it's missing. Then when you get it installed be sure to adjust everthing as specified in the shop manual. This is important!
