I've heard of Durant monoleafs before, but I can't remember where or why... any chance you'd mind filling me in on why one would want to use them?
Thanks,
Ed

they have been used in many projects a single leaf can be made to hae the right spring rate yet ride smooth, do a search of the durant mono, and you will see many articles come up

Reviving and updating a really ancient, dusty old thread (mostly because I know if I was trying to find this info, others are too):
Alliance Vendor Riley Automotive caries Durant Mono Springs:

I'd do a search on here about all the problems with mono leafs breaking. Don't think I'd be caught dead (pun intended) with one on my car.

I've had one in a Model A for 12 years with no problems...
One thing you do have to do is check to make sure it isn't bottoming out on the frame... as the Super Low spring is almost flat and with 28-32 frames you may have to notch the frame.
The one I bought was not the Super Low Model and it was fine.
I'm working on another Model A now... and will be running a Durant up front... thanks for the link, as I tried to find a Durant Mono Leaf web site with no luck!

I've used several Durants and now have a Posie Dual Flex on the front of my new display chassis. It's a mono leaf with a second safety leaf to help prevent some of the problems the Durant has had in the past

I ordered a durant spring for my '41 ford thru JPL street rods. Received it and it was too long. Called Durant and gave the part no. and he said it was wrong and he'd send the correct spring and issue a pick-up order for the wrong one. 5 weeks later no spring and couldn't get a reply from durant. JPL tried also and durant flipped out because they called.
finally got the spring and was the worse riding thing I ever had or could imagine having on my car. Called durant and he said he'd give me 1/2 retail price as a refund and when I shipped it to make sure I insured it, he kept telling me. Shipped it out and got nothing. He said he never received it. finally couple weeks later it showed up at my place marked "REFUSED". ended up selling it at the Hershey flea market for $100. During the process the only way I could get him to talk to me was to leave a no. and act like I was interested in a spring. I guess he never connected the phone no.
I wouldn't buy a spring for him if he was the last spring shop on the planet.

Durant has a good product.. Down side is with only one leaf there is no ajustment for the weight of front of hotrod...Rule of thumb there only needs to be as much spring as it takes to rebound front weight ,any more and there will be a hard ride.....

Talk about good service!!!
Our left front mono spring from Durant broke today.
Flat bed home via AAA.
Called Durant spoke to Jim.
He is shipping two new spring today.
My cost 1/2 price.
Not a bad deal after four or five years and no proof of purchase.
Good service from Jim at Durant.

And you want more springs that break?
I have seen a few snapped ones and ridden a few cars with them. Rough riding and dangerous.

The ride is very smooth on our 1950 Chevy pickup.
The spring was eight plus years old.
How time flies!
This is the first broken spring I have come across.
It also helps to have good shocks.
We run Bilsteins shocks
