View Full Version : CHAMPIRO tires info? 1+ inch whitewalls

Going for an early 60's look on my car, so I've been looking for new radials with whitewalls in the 1-1.5" range. Not so easy to find nowadays. So far the only choices I've found are the Dunlop D65's (but now they have lettering in the whitewall) or the Coker 'Dimension IV' radials (ex-Firestone 721s).

BUT in the last couple of weeks I've seen a couple of cars with CHAMPIRO tires that have the whitewall width I want. Unfortunately I can't find any info on them online and the couple of tire shops I asked had no clue.

SO, does anybody know where you can buy these and/or where I could get sizing info?

Thanks.

I just put a set of Broadway Classics (got 'em thru Discount Tire) on my '49 Chevy. 205-75-15s, 1.3" white wall, same as Demension IV. $300. mounted and balanced.

Thanks guys, unfortunately those links weren't the ones I was looking for. The Les Schwab 'Champiro's are only 13" blackwall, and the Google link was a bunch of 'tuner' stuff and pop-up sites (that's all I could find when I searched myself too). This isn't giving me much confidence in the quality of Champiro products, not that a name like Champiro gives me much to begin with http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

The Dimension IV's and Broadways (forgot about those) are still my first choices, but I'd still like to find out something about these mysterious Champiros before abandoning the idea. I'm hoping they have more size selection than the other brands.

The two cars I saw with Champiros are pictured below. Are these guys HAMBers or are they known by anyone?

OK I got the info I needed thanks to TheRev and Shiny.

In case anyone else was curious, here's what I found:

"Champiro 75" tires have a whitewall around 1.3 inches, similar to the Coker Dimentions IV's and Broadway classics. The Champiro's have quite a bit of 'crap' embossed on the sidewalls that I might want to buff off.

They're produced by the GT Radial company in Jakarta Indonesia. They are the 'largest integrated tire manufacturer in Asia' that I've never heard of. The pic on the website doesn't show the whitewalls for some reason.
-GT Tires Website- (http://www.gt-tires.com/)

Sizes are:
165/75-13
185/75-14
195/75-14
205/75-14
205/75-15
215/75-15
225/75-15
235/75-15

So there is more size selection with these than with the other manufacturers, which is good for me because I think I need the 225's.

They are CHEEP. I got a phone quote for around $70 apiece CANADIAN http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

So thanks again for the help everyone.
Cheers

I know this is an old post but I'm wanting to know if anyone purchased the Champiro GT Radial 75 tires with the wide white wall. If you did, have they been good tires?

We are thinking about getting a set for our truck because they are one of the few that have a white wall this size.

Any insight would be helpful.

I have bought two sets with no problems, I am currently running a set on the edsel, they cost me around 85 a pop. The only thing I don't like about them is sometimes the white wall gets brown spots in them, but it has only happened on the champiro tires none of the other white walls i have.

I was on one of my job sites and saw the concrete guy had a lowered nissan truck with some White Walls. They were the Champiros. He bought them at Lee Tire in Charlotte NC. A-Rodder is right on the Champiros white wall turning brown. No kind of cleaner will keep them white for more than a few days. I'm ready to turn mine around or bite the bullet and buy again.

Anybody have any ideas on finding a 15" wide white wall like the Champiros for under a $100 a tire.

Be careful with the Champiro (Enduro is made by the same company) because I have been told by more than one person that they started getting brown spots on the whitewalls soon after buying.

My second set of GT Champiro tyres are about 3/4 worn out, no problems with brown spots on either set.
