302 head inter change

my 302, thinking around 1972 has a bad head ,will the heads of a 89 gt mustang 302 work on this motor ? any other mods to make it work?

As far as I know,they will work.
Some minor changes in exhaust port shape,but the bolt pattern is the same.

Also I think the 89 heads are plumbed into the exhaust for the emissions air pump. I think you will need to plug these ports or exhaust will come out of them. If i'm not mistaken these ports are on the front of the heads where the air pump plumbing attaches.

If this is the case a pipe plug should suffice. These are things i've heard before, so tread lightly. This is what I have heard and read, never actually done this swap.

The emissions crossover ports are usually in the back of the heads...if I recall correctly, a spark plug can be used to plug 'em!

(There is a pipe that goes from one head to the other on later Ford small blocks, it can be eliminated and plugged).

Also, 1989 heads may not have the exhaust crossover ports that allows the exhaust to flow through the middle of the intake and warm the carb. You can get by without it, though.
