View Full Version : I went a little nuts at an auction yesterday!!
Found a cool auction this week and had to cancel a camping trip to go. The guy had tons of stuff for 42-48 Fords. Stuff went cheap too. There were good doors for 40's Fords going for five and ten dollars.
Here's some pics of what he had.
Clark
He had two hemi's and a couple of flatheads. The hemi's went for $425. One was a running motor! The running flathead went for $400 and the rest went for around $100.
I ended up getting two truckloads of stuff. The most expensive thing I got was 7 new stromberg 94s for $30 each. I thought I went a little high on them but they were new. The best buy I got was 40 front drums for $10 a pair. Well maybe it was the set of new chrome reverse wheels for $40. Now i just have to get all the junk put away.
Here's the one truckload

Sumo and Glasshole did pretty good too. Sumo got some finned FE valve covers and an 8 inch rear. Glasshole and I went halfsies on the wheels.

I hope you got a mate for that 48 Buick tail light. I really like them. Good score. I know you have a "THING" for lights like I do.
Tommy..I got both taillights. I think they are going on Larry's roadster. I was suprised you weren't there.
JW..I think the skirts are 56 Chevy. Not sure though. I bought them to sell and recoop some of the money I put ou on the carbs.

I went to a swap yesterday with just enough money to park the car. I almost stopped at the ATM but figured that I'd only waste it on something. Well, sure enough, there was a dirt cheap 1928 Chevy cowl, not sure how much I think around $50, or so and two doors for $15 each. It would have been a start to a Y block roadster project.
Oh well.

Hey you wouldn't be interested in turning a profit on those chrome reverse wheels would ya? Are all 4 there? What bolt pattern are they?, Please tell me 15" with a 4 1/2" bolt pattern. Let me know if they match this profile and you are interested in selling them.
The wheels are 15x6 with 5 1/2 bolt pattern. Glasshole has a pair for the back of his coupe and I have a pair for a future project.
One thing that went for crazy money was a Model A cowl that needed lower patch panels. The rust wasn't bad but it still needed fixed. The cowl went for $260
Most of the stuff I got is for future use. I've got some ashtrays and gloveboxes to sell that I'll put in the classifieds later. Most of the wide five drums will go.
Clark
Here's a pic of most of the drums I got. There's a couple of NOS chevy six lug drums in there.

I got just a few backing plates http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice stuff So What. A friend here went to a similar auction here years ago. Bought a bunch of stuff cheap including a virtually complete '35 phaeton, which he is now building. He spent around $400 dollars that day. But the ironic thing was, people were buying stuff of him as he was collecting what he had bought at the auction. He had just about got all his money back before he had left to go home and still had a heap of stuff he wanted as well as the '35. He also said a lot o people paid crazy high prices on some stuff. Holy shit Clark, you guy's made out pretty nice. That was a decent price for the Hemi. later plmczy
Geoff...35 Phaetons are one of my favorite cars. I wasn't nearly as lucky as that guy. I did sell stuff out of the boxes right after I got it.
There was some stuff I wish I would have got. There was a box of NOS 40s Ford gauges. I went up to $50 and bowed out. I sorta wish I had more money to buy that Hemi.

..............speaking of "little nuts......", how's the back doing??
Finky...the backs doing pretty good. It's just something I will have to live with. I loaded the drums one at a time and didn't end up with any pain. Had to have help with some of the boxes.
