Nice work fortypickup!
Early or not here is what I did this week. It's a storyboard style piece of a Hot Rod race gone bad...
definitely a Robt. Williams influence on this one...I had planned to add another panel but I ran out of time as it was an assignment for a class...

Here's something from a photo I took earlier this week (posted in the Wednesday photo show). I wanted to do a "say it, don't spray it" style Flathead t-shirt design for those in the know. This is in the design stage right now, but I could go to print soon on it.

I love this. Don't know that the "8BA" is even needed though. I'd buy one if it was offered on something other than a black or white shirt.

Great start for the art show fortypickup, always like your work.!1-shot slinger, I like that stuff , nice display. Jigger, the 58 is getting nice.Surfmonkey, always like what you do, prismicolors are FUN!
Well, I just got finished with this at 3 o'clock this morning so I could feel good about myself this week. The Trendero was always a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I use to trace it right out of the Car Craft it was in in the 60's when I would get bored at granny's house when she use to babysit me! It was a challenge , and I.m sure some details are off, but I did my best. When you draw it , you start to appreciate what the original builder's intention was no matter how wacky. Hey Moriarity, I decided to do it yellow and I hope you like it. I wish the pic was a little better.
The other pic is of a car I saw in one of my little east coast mags of a combo of a 53 Studebaker front clip joined with a 59 ElCamino quarters and rear end. The one in the article, can't find it right now, is kinda ugly , but what a concept. Would make a neat model car if nothing else. I can smell the glue now!
Well , thats all I got this week, next week is Ranchero week for me, got something crazy lined up.

"T" is served.
Kandy Marigold Orange on a '25 T is a tasty brew.
This one was inspired by a car that was featured
in "Rodding and Restyling" in July of 1960. The original
was owned and built by a fellow named Richard Andre
of Santa Cruz, CA. Mr. Andre did the build which started
out as a coupe and Gene Winfield did the paint!
Richard Andre, if you're still out there,
this one is dedicated to you.

There are some amazing artists here. I've never posted at the "art show" before.
Does graphic design count?
If so...
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u185/oddrod1/Picture020AKOsml.jpg
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u185/oddrod1/HopUpslipCase1A.jpg
A while back Mark Morton asked me to design a slipcase for the first five Hop Up issues. Seems he unexpectedly found about 350 of out of print issues of the first 5 and thought it would be good to package them. He suggested the idea of louvers adorning the slipcase.
Thinking that was a great idea, I dove into my archives of various louver photos and started doing some rough layouts. I quickly realized I didn’t have the “right” louvers, so over the next couple of months I photographed louvers whenever I saw some. I shot louvers at the A.I. and at Bonneville and at Billetproof and just about anywhere I could find a gathering of punched steel. So, convinced that I had enough for a palette, I created another layout. Each side was a different louver from a different car. It looked really good… but it didn’t look really great. Something was bugging me.
Mark and I discussed the design and then the light bulb went off !!! Hey… less is more right? So I grabbed a clean piece of 18ga and headed over to Modern Louver Service. I gave him some specs, and after a couple of beers and several minutes, I had my perfect monochrome palette. I then photographed the punched panel and did some cloning and altering in Photoshop, added the Hop Up logo and finished the layout pretty much by our deadline.
So here they is… The long lost, desperately sought after first five issues and a slippery little case… numbered and signed no less.
If ya wanna get one of these sets, more info can be found at:

I have admired you guys' work for several years now. I'm an art director so I know how hard it is, especially for you guys who do it commercially as well. You all kick ass and inspire me weekly.
That said, I've been working on some stuff that is a little different and would love to see what you guys think of it. Thanks again!

Very ingenious! Love the warrior. Are those trampoline springs on the helmet? The pieces gotta weigh a ton! Very well done!

Those are pretty wild. The size/scale of them didn't come across very well for me. I saw the rotors and that gave me the idea, but it still doesn't seem to have the impact I imagine they would in person. I'd like to hear some more on the media/methods on these, also.
Thanks,

Thanks for the feedback! The pieces really don't photograph well at all. They are all made from my OT race car parts and other crap from my scrap pile. They are actually very lightweight. The warrior guy is about 3.5 ft. tall and maybe 50 lbs. The horse and rider is made from a honda engine block, struts, rotors, etc... He weighs about 300 total. I started building them for welding practice. I'll post some more pix next week, or pm me for more info. Thanks again.

I used to do a lot of sketching in high school and took some art classes in college but now prety much all my "art" is done in metal. I finished this one a couple of weeks ago and am looking forward to seeing it in paint. I just hope that the owner does it in a retro style scheme.

Coop, where did you find the mother of all hand grenades? That thing is bad ass!
I found the grenade in an army surplus store. It was a store display. There were two, but the other had been painted like an American flag, with eagles and shit on it. (Why would you want to blow up the flag?)
Kirk, I had a hyuge blister on my knuckle after bearing down on the exacto to cut through that cardboard. I used to do stencils in high school, to paint skulls and other dumb crap on my friends' jackets. I'm revisiting it, to try and do something different on my paintings.
