so hack just left after our 13 hour thrash to get the chevelle ready by monday after the honda threw rod yesterday and i now have no way to work http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif got a bunch done. new lifters, tried to put a 296 cam in a stock 76 motor but valve springs hit, all new gaskets just about, torker 2 intake edelbrock 600 cfm carb, front clip bolted on and got a gm 1 wire wired up and brake lights to work. just about enough to get her to work on monday. need to tie up some loose ends tommrow while hack hangs with the fam. but beware of the "skunk" come hamb drags lol me hack and rocketj2 will be causing ruckus all over mokan with it hahaha ill let hack the wordssmith take over on the fine details and tell of all the funny shit that came up today. o yea and be sure to let your parts guy know that a olds 350 and a chevy 350 have diffrent timming gasket sets. some dont seem to understand http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

DUDE!
You totally forgot about the garage sale two doors down!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
We took a break and wandered over to check out the goods...can ya believe it...the lady was selling a whole 70s vintage bar for $20!!! HOW can ANYONE say "No" to THAT??? She had other stuff, too...we coulda outfitted the most important area of Dirty's new house yesterday for like $50!!!
Oh well, we did have WORK to do...but Bryan still managed to buy a wooden ammo crate labeled something like "Cannon Ammunition For Explosive Projectile"...I was pretty bummed to find the crate void of any such promised ammunition...but it's still a cool BOX I suppose! When the lady asked how I'd use live ammo without a cannon, I told her we could just toss 'em up in the air and whack the primer with a hammer or something....looked at me like I was nuts.
Some people have NO imagination or sense of FUN!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Oh yeah...Dirty also bought a rat powered Disco ball...a big opaque yellow ball for his little rodent friend to run around in...I say we hang it over the bar with a few mirror bits glued to it and let the rat move to the beat!
100.3 FM is doing a Flashback Summer every weekend...Full Disco Coolness...but no working radio in the garage we were using...DAMN!!
Oh yeah...we were working on a car, too...in between 15 parts runs, a couple meal breaks and a beer-fueled late night thrash session...we made noise, got the motor back together and fired it on open headers to amuse the neighbors...it do need a good tune laid on it...but it RUNS at least!
We got the front sheetmetal back on and finalized plans for our special HAMB Drags paint scheme...you will be afraid...VERY afraid, to be sure!!! Ted Nugent will run his zebra ass over the hills to hide from our fearsome animalistic warrior steed!!!

We didn't even run out of beer...and I got a Big Boy bobblehead...life is good! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Ha Ha...Bryan says you get a FREE bobblehead with every meal or something...he has a few, so he tossed me one...it will sit proudly on my rear deck...wonder if they have Dolly and Nugget, too???

Dirty called this afternoon to let me know that he buttoned up the new ride enough to get him to work tomorrow...and that he'd been driving around doing burnouts on open headers after setting the timing and stuff!
His girlfriend even dug our idea for the paint scheme...so you won't miss this beast when ya see it!!! Gonna be a fun HAMB Drags transport even if it technically comes in as too new...it still has the Middle Finger Attitude that real rods MUST exhibit to earn their Street Creds...looks mean with the front bumper left off, it's a keeper!
Working on that thing was a real trip Back for me...had several Chevelles in my youth, and learned a fortune with 'em. It was cool to dive in and show Dirty some of what I learned messin' with 'em...and it's gonna run decent with the combination we settled on and installed.
(I shed a blissfull nostalgic tear when I slid the old cam out and we inspected it...the tell tale part number indicated it was may favorite "secret 305 stealth cam" from years back...milder in a 350, but a real torquey grind. Just a TRW #274 replacement cam...nothing fancy...but a damn good runner in a heavy steel streeter...works EXCELLENT with a Torker II intake and 600cfm carb, too. This dog'll hunt!)
The cam looked fine...all the old lifters were collapsed and wouldn't pump up again, so we gobbed on assembly lube and installed a new set of lifters. (Keep in mind, we're the Kings of low buck Make-Do!!). The big Comp Cams stick he had woulda likley bound and snapped the stock springs...a quick mock-up showed two coils touching...not good!.
Glad the new Machine is mobile...look for it at Mokan...and along the route there...you won't miss it...trust me on that one!!!

i like doing burn outs been a while since i had a car that could do one it was fun i felt like i was 16 again in my 74 lemans http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif got most of the new paint layed on it tonight with the help of alex (my g/f) since i thought she should help a little on this project since i did build it for her but now i have to steal it for daily purposes after the demise of the civic. going to put the new headers and exhuast on it tommrow and give it a new set of plugs and fix the plug wires that are all 100 ft long!!! change the oil and the trans fluid since i have to drive it 1400 miles in two weeks. but hell i cant thanks hack enough for his help on this. i would be walking the 90 mile round trip to work and back with out the velle on the road. it was like a tech post live. learned a bunch about sbc. since this is my first one ever belive it or not. we will see how good we did come tommrow when i get the long hual to work going.

Ha Ha Ha...no problem, Bro! It was almost (gasp!) FUN working on a small block again...you can do it blindfolded after you've screwed together a couple dozen...no surprises and nothing weird to make a simple job into a two week ordeal!!!
(Don't be looking for one in my car anytime soon...but I don't mind lending a hand on someone else's...'specially when it's for a buddy like Dirty!!!)
