help with olds rocket 303

using a 303 olds in a project. never messed with one before. the question i have is there are 2 ports one on each side behind the intake on the heads. i believe they are in the water jacket. is there something that mounts there? there are some mount bolt holes around each one. do they hook to one another? trying to get this thing running by labor day weekend.

on the pass. side head that has a plate into which a pipe thread fitting is screwed in,that's for the heater hose.the driver's side has a blockoff plate which also supports the kickdown linkage for the hydra-matic,later one the same plate had a provision for the water temp sender.if you don't have a heater or a hydra-matic you can just make simple plates to block them off-george
