Phoenix Motor Cars builds electric vehicles based on vintage US models from the 1940s. They are currently having their first prototype evaluated by the California Air Resouorce Board The initial drive system will be an Enova 90KW system and will use Evercel batteries. Phoenix motor cars are saying that they are seeing real world ranges of 110 to 120 miles and a recharge time of 5 to 6 hours. They also support fast charging using a 200 amp system that gives a full charge in less than one hour.

Production chassis are produced by Art Morrison Enterprises Inc. in Fife, Washington. There are currently 7 body configurations that fit their production chassis and they are manufactured by Downs Manufacturing in Lawton, Michigan. The production chassis and bodies are based on 1937 Ford vehicles.

They have just received a fleet order for 20 vehicles and are currently working on a quote for several hundred vehicles. Once the CARB certification process is complete their prototype 1937 Ford Cabriolet 4 seat with removable hard top will be available for sale. They are also excepting individual orders with prices ranging from $65,000 to $120,000 per vehicle.

Electric cars are dead, they have no range and are just as dirty in erms of the total volume of poolution when compared to a normal petrol engine car (like, think about how the 'tank' is refilled and how that electricity is generated.. And as stated above they have a lousy range. That's why petol electric hybrids are the cars people are buying.

By running the petrol engines at low RPMs to keep the batteries charged etc, they pollute much less than a normal car and use much less fuel. They use the existing refeueling infrastructure and don't require any special maintenance or even to be 'plugged in' to recharge the battery pack.

Likewise, a T Prius will out accellerate most new cars because the electric motor makes a mountain of torque the instant it starts to rotate. The car will travel at normal road speeds and cover over 600 miles on ten gallons of regular unleaded gasoline.

FWIW, there will be a stock bodied Toyota Prius running at Bonneville next week in an effort to set a land speed record for this type of vehicle. The goal is 175mph which I think they should do relatively easy.

Sorry for mentioning that nasty 'T' word, but hey, we were first to mass produce a P/E Hybrid and we lead the world as far as this technology goes, I couldn't let this one go unanswered.
