Hi-

New to post here, I have many vehicles and have a passion for older cars. The main project I'm working on is a 1935 Chevrolet master coach. The cool part of the car is I have most of the history. I have pictures of this car in front of the alamo, beaches etc. I also have pictures of it's previous resting place. It was sitting in a garage down in Texas since 1968. I've had it for about a year. I have since dumped the old 207 and put in a 235 straight six from a 54. I think I want to turn it into a 50's rod someday. But I needed to get on the road and drive it.
Below is a link of my junk.

Here is a question Hot Rod and Rat Rod what is the difference. I also have been watching rides and the Burbank Choppers. When someone says Rat Rod, I think that is grouping that one should be proud of. It is really the majority of people out there. You see all the high end stuff and it is cool no doubt. But most can't even afford it, and if you can scrape the money together it is usually a sacrifice for something that might be more rational to spend the money on. My car has the paint falling off etc. and if someone wants to call it a Rat Rod I would be proud, because I think it represents the real hot rodder of America no matter if your trying to build a traditional rod, custom, billet machine, Pro street, or whatever. It can represent any die hard hot rodder where money is an object.

Just my 2 cents.

Glad I found this site, I think it will help me decide period type of modifications I would like to perform.

A Rat Rod is a love/hate term. Keep your work clean, well thought out, nice weld's, and a safe ride.

Right on...

Gotta like a channeled 35 master coupe. I see your using a 55-62 235. What are you going to use for a tranny? I think the coupe will look cool without fenders, but I don't know about a Sedan....

I have seen the fender skirts on the 35's originals are way over the top on price.

See ya,

Brent

SOund slike you're right on track for having fun... and that's what it is all about. The term Rat Rod is insulting to me. If you've ever seen some of the crap that people build... too low, rust holes, dirty, unsafe... those be the rat rods.

Well constructed, paint falling off, can drive it ANYWHERE, reliable, cool looking, barn fresh... patina'd... those cars are just hot rods... or traditional rods if you have all the post dated parts.

Anyway, it's just a term... and a new way to describe cars... don't get too hung up on it. What I have found is that guys who take pride in what they build and pay an enormous amount of attention to detail DO NOT like the term rat rod. After putting as much thought into my cars as work, I'll be damned if I'm going to put it down and call it ratty.

My two cents... don't take it as gospel... just spend some time thinking about it before you respond. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome!

Sam.
