Well i know a guy who wants to trade his 426 wedge for either my 276 desoto or my 331 chrysler. Can anyone give me the basics on the wedge, like how rare are they and how expencive parts are??

they're a lot easier to find parts for than those early hemis.as far as i know they're the same externally as any other RB Mopar,i think the only major difference is the size of the pistons internally.if it's a MAX wedge 426 it'll have bigger exhaust ports than any other RB too.BTW this is all from memory,i could be wrong-george
Same block/heads as 413/440. Check here for info...

get the casting numbers off the block. get the head numbers off the heads. read the numbers off the pad at the front of the motor, next to the distributor. tell them to me. i'll tell you what it is, what it's worth, and if it's a good trade or not. David

If its a 426 street wedge they were a pretty mundane motor. Could be built to run for sure. But when Chrysler came out with the 426 street wedge people thought that they were getting a slightly detuned Max motor, they were sadly mistakin. A dead giveaway for the Max motor is the valve reliefs cut into the deck.

Parts are easy to find.(I have ALOT) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Not as cheap as SBC but still reasonable. Cylinder heads are all interchangible between 361,383,400,413,426,440 excluding max wedge.Rods and cranks interchange with some machining for stroker motors.B engines(361,383,400)use different distributors and intakes than RB(413,426,440). All the misc stuff like oil pan, valve covers and such all work too. If the 426 has upswept exhaust manifolds looking like headers, I'd definitely trade BOTH motors for it, they're worth big $$$$. Hope this helps.
