Guys, if you could recommend a good late model mechanic in the Springfield, Missouri area, I would greatly appreciate it.

My sister is having terrible luck with "mechanics" "fixing" her brakes on her 97 chevy cavalier. She has had a new master cylinder put on, but this thing has been a big fiasco. One guy moved her brake line into her CV shaft and it rub a hole in the line, giving her NO brakes. That was repaired, but now she slides sometimes when applying the brakes. (Air in the lines???, I don't know)

I would fix them right, but I live 250 miles away from her. I told her to find an ASE shop, but I realize not all of those shops are the best either.

Anyway, I TRUST my HAMB bretheren on serious issues like this.

Thanx,
Rev. Jake Toocool

I would say that taking that car to a Chevy dealer is the best thing to do. They will use factory parts and work with these cars everyday so they know exactly what to look for and have most likely experianced the problem before. It does cost more to go to a dealer but you know that it will be done by qualified Technicians and they always back up their work. I work for a VW dealer and see some very poor work from the local independant shops. Indy shops will usually do what ever it takes to get the job done in the least anmount of time even if it means sacrificing quality. So That is why I think the dealer is the best bet. She will save$$$ in the long run.
I have rambled too long here
Hope this helps

agree with Slamit. this is no time to be fooling around trying to save a buck. Your life (and someone elses) is on the line everytime you try to stop. the dealership will undoubtly charge a few more dollars, but it will be worth it in the long run.

I totally agree SLAMIT. I was just curious if any HAMBers in that area know "that guy who can fix anything" and do it with the upmost credibility. Even I know my "own" guy here. I would recommend this guy to fix ANYTHING. He's insanely smart and very honest. To bad he's here with me.

I will tell her to roll it on in to the dealer if I don't find that "one" guy. I've worked at a few dealerships, so I know how the system works. Hell, that's where I met "that one guy" now that I think of it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
