I'm thinkin' there's more to this story than simply the fault of that lowly Corvair!!!
R-
Kar Kharma nipping at Tims heels.
actualy to be honest i babyed the crap out of that car, the only car i have ever driven the speed limit at all times even!
checked the fluids and belts every time before and after driving it. i cant even reason out why it just fell apart like that?
i hate changing the belt so i took it to a shop last time, i would hate to think they would totaly wreck the car so i would bring it back fore more busness, god knows i know to many shops that do just that, but brakes shit man.
car karma, maybe i dont know. iv always tried to keep my cars when i could and when i couldnt i sold them to ppl i thought would take care of them, or at least finish them....
it realy does have me baffled

Sounds like stuff that needs fixing, that's all. The M/C or a wheel cylinder is proabably needing a rebuild and maybe a broken return spring. I had one rust in two and the rusty end would poke under the cup releasing the preasure from time to time. Luckily it was the clutch slave and not a brake cylinder so I didn't bend any bumpers.
The other stuff is just do them one at a time and everything's gonna be fine stuff.
Do you really suspect sabotage?
If so get it looked at by another mechanic or consumer affairs type people.
That's evil shit if it was fucked with. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Don't listen to the Doc. Just send it down my way and I'll dispose of it properly. Prolly will never run again anyway, right? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
DrJ, I used to run around with a band called Slow Children at Play. Even had modified road signs with the little silhouette guy carrying a bottle and a guitar. Darn kids and their rock-n-roll music. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Unless you want to buy another car [again] just fix one thing at a time. There's a logical reason for every parts failure. Be happy it's not winter.

I read Nader's book, and don't remember any of those problems being discussed. His biggest beef was the poor handling induced by running too much pressure in the front tires. Its been a long time, he may have ignored the tire pressure issue and just focused on the handling problem...
One of my brothers buys interesting old cars, spends a bundle fixing problems, then gets mad and sells them because one more thing breaks. The next guy always gets a car with one glaring problem and lots of new parts.
If you like the car spend some time fixing a few of these things. None of them sound terminal to me.

It's an old car....If you like it...FIX IT!
Or buy a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW ONE with B to B and road side assistance.

haha,
yeah actualy guys they are all easy fixes, and i do like the car but ive ben trying to sell it for a little while simply because i dont think it will take all the hard miles i would end up putting on it in the next year, and the year after that im moving and it would end up just sitting there for 3 or 4 years. so i figured id try and sell it to some one who would take care of er' and not let it just sit and errode. i hate cars just being left sitting there for no reason, if i had any real atachment to the car or if it was anymore then just an old car for a driver id just find some storage or something. and possibly if i had another car other then the vair i would fix the problems.
as it were the guy i had on the line to buy it called me this afternoon and i told him what had happend ect. and he was still intrested in the car for as much as i wanted for it. so it all ended up working out.
just a little scary there for a bit
