just got it in the mail today. i've been, for the most part, a bit unimpressed with Hot Rod the past couple years, but i just flipped through this issue and it is packed with sweet rods. the "20 hottest project cars" story is inspiring. i just love seein rods in bare metal and under construction. the pics of Trepanier's shop makes me wanna cry (then quite my job, sell my stuff, move to Illinois and offer to work for him for free!!). Joe Rogan's Cuda is prolly the baddest Mopar i've ever seen! there is something about a V8 midengine CORVAIR! that sounds like one helluva idea (i have'nt read all the details yet), someone is putting together a flip top Nova funny car and Foose's 05 AMBR and 04 Ridler hopeful looks like one sweet machine (though not the least bit "traditional"). prolly one of the coolset things i noticed while flipping through (and TOTALY traditional) was the So Cal Speed Shop Ardun powered Duece roadster that won the 04 AMBR. man is that thing BEAUTIFUL!!!
just thought i'd throw this out so if you have'nt looked at Hot Rod lately maybe you'll stop by the store, take a looksee and decide if it's worth your hard earned green. for the first time in a while i think it is. i like the mix of old style and new that this issue seems to offer. now i have to find time to actually READ it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but for now i'm gonna make a quick pass through the HAMB and get my ass into the garage, time to built something cool!!....

Last few issues have been good. Used to take me about 15 minutes to check it out, tonight will be my 2nd night of reading. I first subscribed to Hot Rod in 1962. Was my bible for many years growing up. Glad to see it coming back to something that interests me again.

Dave Freiburger is the reason. Everytime he goes to a new magazine, it seems to get better.
you didn't mention the ZINGERS!

I just re-subscribed today for the 2 year/$12 deal following postings on here several weeks back regarding the rebirth of Hot Rod. Lets hope the standard remains high.

Sounds like good news. I dropped my sub a few years back after they completely lost the plot.
Then last weekend I flipped thru the july issue at the local newsagent's and almost feinted when I saw the feature on Tardel's place. Naturally I took the magazine home.
Read Feriburger's editorial which suggested things are changing at HRM and they are going back to their roots. Very promising stuff but I wasn't sure, until now.
If what's suggested here is right I may just have to resubscribe.

I do not think the ardun powered roadsterfrom So Cal won the AMBR last year. It was the yellow and silver car.
Will have to take a look at the new issue.

yer right, my bad. i had'nt actually read the whole thing when i posted that. it was just in contention for the AMBR but was actualy too cool to win it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
the ZINGERS are cool as was the story on the Safety Safari. neat stuff!! i don't think i even looked at the last issue (before this one) when it came in the mail. i might have to dig it up and see if it was good aswell. pretty bad when i get a car mag in teh mail and never even open the cover. Hot Rod was due for a change and if they stay true to this course i just might renew my subscription again...

Your right Kustombuilder it is a good issue and I am with you on the baremetal in progress thing and that Cuda is amazing. I have subscribed to Hot Rod forever. It does have its ups and downs though, like most magazines.
The Ardun roadster is a nice car, but I thought it was a strangely written article. Big dollar hot rod that one! Geoff aka Whodaky

I just about did this exact same post when I got my issue yesterday. The last three issues have been nothing short of amazing. Freiburger wrote an editorial a few months ago that basicly said, "the bean counters said we will leave you alone, just do whatever you want as long as it makes us money." The results have been outstanding.
Your not likely to see alot of flat black Fords with red wheels, but if you open your mind just a little, I guarantee you will find somthing you like.
