Your trans modulator just needs manifold vacuum, so any port that is manifold will work, off the carb or intake manifold itself.

As for the cooler, does it matter? It just goes out and then returns. They usually run together along the frame rail or engine. Just hook them up so it goes through a cooler and back. I am not able to see why it matters, maybe a trans expert can define this better.

The upper one is the RETURN line.......
The lower is the OUT line.......

Go here to see for yourself.......

On my Holley equipped SBC with a Turbo 400.........the manifold has a threaded hole that has vacuum .........that's where GM got it from the factory....stronger more consistant signal.
