Fat Hack

This is a really simple "how to" tech post...but some people may not have thought to try it yet, so I'll give you some pointers I just picked up this afternoon.

First of all, you need to decide that the arear of the driveway under your car is just too darn CLEAN. You know...the area where you have to lay to work on everything? You don't want that piece of concrete looking too pristine, or nobody will ever believe that you've DONE anything.

There's several ways to quickly and easily apply an Instant Hack Mess to that area...but I'm just gonna run through my latest methood for ya here.

Okay...take one fresh NEW can of starting fluid...no old, dead shit...you need the GOOD stuff...splurge on that $1.59 price and bring a can home.

Now, do some silly hackery to make a top post battery sort of connect to your side post cables...it ain't easy...but with a little, ummm...IMAGINATION, it CAN be done.

Next, you'll need to douse the carb with the NEW starting fluid.

Crank engine over...here it kick back and hesitate.

Retard timing...ALOT.

Crank again.

Listen carefully for knocks and ticks as the motor clears it's throat from a long nap and rolls to an idle as your neighbor looks on in disbelief.

Shut key off...you ARE on open ports, after all...and though it kind of sounds like an old biplane idling...shut it down before ya warp the valves or something!

Okay...here's the best part....remember those trans lines you can't afford to buy and hook up? Well, guess what...now you know the pump in the trans is good, too...cuz you've got one HELL of a mess under the car...in the form of tranny fluid!!!

<font color="green">Dude, You are my hero!!!

I'll tell you what I love about you.

You LOVE that car, and anybody that loves old Chevy's is alright by me.

You sure your ready to give up all that fun you've been having?

I realize it's not hip, trad, kewl, or whatever, but if you had gone the SBC route, it would just go the SBC route, you will make it alot easier on yourself.

I wish we were closer together, I have a side post battery I would give you.

Wait just a minute here?

You got that sucka running or did I miss something?

I'm gonna go back and find the list of stuff you needed to get that running and we will find it.

You do know they make battery cable adapters, right?

I didn't and when I switched my style of battery, I HACKed the factory ends off and put the others on, now I have an Optima which has both styles on it.

Your OKLAhomie,

Here's a good one.....take off the oil bath air cleaner cover and just lay it on your fender as though its was just a regular cover, cause you're in kind of a hurry. Glad I haven't done paint work yet. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nuthin like the sound of a new baby cryin' the first time.
Once it starts making noises tho ya gotta get it done.
No more sitting in the car and going Vrooom Vrooom for you.

I had a tranny line let go on the old 383 and dump on the Hooker Big Tubes once on the freeway in Virginia. Fluid flowed down the headers, along the burned out glass packs and hit the dumps under the back seat. Lemme tell ya. Smoke from a John Force burnout ain't shit... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL, I had a similar thing happen to my '92 suburban, a power steering fluid line cut loose, and pumped the entire system directly onto the exhaust manifold. Pulling a tent trailer at the time, through the middle of town. The smoke screen filled the entire city block. Not only did it make one hellava cloud, it was on fire too. Pulled onto a side street, popped the hood to see what the hell happened, and flames four feet high greeted me. Guys were running out of a restaurant with glasses of water from the tables to help put it out. Luckily I had an extenguisher in the trailer that did the trick. Or maybe it was unlucky, I really wish that POS had burned to the ground... Didn't want to lose the trailer though... I got rid of it after it crapped three more times in a row. Got to know the tow driver well with that rig. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thats kinda like adding the 5 quarts of oil on your oil/filter change-then seeing that "new golden pond" under the motor with the drain plug still in your tool tray. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[.........Ive heard that happens sometimes.] http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've done it, no shit!

The very first time I started the 41 with the "Skeeter Beeter" motor it used to have.

I was so pumped, had a friend on his way over for moral support, dumped the 5 in and checked the stick.

Started getting pissed because I was concerned the stick was the wrong length.

I thought it would be too long though, hey wait a minute, there should have been too much oil on the stick if I was right.

What the......DOH!!!

Good news is the stick turned out to be accurate.

Bad news is it takes ALOT od litter to soak up 5 quarts of oil!
