....anybody gone that route, and had problems with steering box. I started getting the enigne ready to tear out of the 54, and a concern has arisen that the steering box may impeed with the 331 replacement.
Just want to figure the box replacement into the plans if need be.

The stock steering box has to be moved outward to clear a small block Chevy. I've seen it done, it doesn't look real pretty.

I had stock steering and a SBC in my 49 GMC when I first built it. I just set the engine over to the right about 3/4 of an inch. I used 55-56 265 exhaust manifolds and it cleared OK. No one ever noticed the engine was offset.
