Anyone going to the Good Guy show in Charlotte? It would be cool to meet up with some of you there or caravan from Atlanta.

Great - I am glad you all will be there. Rat Rod - are you taking a car? I'll be in my 46 and leaving Friday too. I am staying at the Hampton Inn on the Concord side.
We will have to get together - any suggestions? 38chevy4door - can you post a picture of your car so I can watch out for you?

Hopefully we'll get the same spot as usual..under the back stretch tunnel and to the right. Use your nose to find the skunk smell. That's my Heineken.

As crappy as the weather has been it's pretty tempting to just hop in the daily driver and shoot down there for the weekend.

If your going to spend the time to head there you really need to take enough time off to make sure you participate on the poker run on Thursday. It goes to about 5 or 6 NASCAR race shops. You can do this in your late model, not as much fun, but at least you can see the shops. It's one of the unique aspects of the Charlotte show that the other GG shows can't offer.
The BEST feature they have there is the cruzn on the track at nite. You need to hook up with my folks in the '56 (or someone else that has a hot rod there) and at least ride around the track. That track, at nite, is the COOLEST! I've been fortunate enough to be able to cruz my Chevy under the lites there and also my late model Corvette as well. Man, that Corvette hugged those banks! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As far as thinking the weather there is going to be better then here, make sure you pack your long johns and gloves cuz the last 3 years it has been colder there then MI. Don't forget your rain poncho as well.

Pack the shorts!!! Well worth heading there then! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Look for, and stop and say "hi" to my mom and pops. They'll be in a blue 56 Olds with big billet wheels, but don't hold that against them http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif If the hoods not open, ask to see inside. Slickest 385 I've ever seen and the lowering job has to be seen in person.
If you see the car, walk up to the tall, skinny guy and ask him if he's Denise's dad. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif He runs around with a '39 Chevy, white and black cherry, redish/orangish '40 Ford, and an AWESOME '33 Ford Vicky, white and grey. They usually don't park too far from where you guys do. Drive in from the tunnel, turn right, they park a bit of a distance out between turn 3 and 4. Make sure you tell him your some HAMB buds. He hears me talk about this site all the time. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'll be looking for you guys on Friday - that is cool they still do the cruise around the track - I didn't see it on any of the flyers they sent. They just let you park where ever you can find a spot right?
Rat Rod - when are you travelin?
We are going Friday morning round 8-10 ish
My Pop just did a tour of those Nascar shops - he really dug it.
Tudor
10-26-2003, 02:19 PM
Well - we are back - It is sunday about 1:30
Highlights are as follows: - in no particualr order
Fastassbuick and A-Bone - cruising around and making a ruckus! This Kicked ass - Their pipes were bouncing all over the palce, off the stands, off the track wall - it sounded really kewl. Some of the old roosters got their feathers ruffled and gold chains in a knot about it - it was funny - sonething about some dust flying around
Meeting Fastassbuick, A-bone, and Boones and cruising the track at 180 mph. We got to do 2 laps around the speedway under the lights. Boones passed at least twenty cars and reports the sway bars are working nicely. I hammered it off the turns and got to wind her all the way out on the last lap. It was kick ass man.
A-bones lady got to drive the a-bone around the track, we won't say why and she did a great job.
She even saved my rear end from getting crunched - we won't say why again. Thanks catching that one!
I was also cool checking out ABones car learning that it is driven everywhere - including Missouri. I just have to say that is respectable and that car kicks ass - even though it has a pontiac engine and doesn't need no stinkin windows
I have a cool mpeg incar video of running the track that is a little over 5MB if someone can tell me how to share it I will.
It was fun drag racing Boones out on hwy 29 - We stayed even and I'd say his big ole boat can move - we need to try one from a dead stop - and don't make me put my 750 double pumper back on - I can't have a station wagon blasting by me. Boones car is very cool in person. It sits right
I also met a real cool group of guys from Kanapolis who had a severly chopped 5 window coop - i mean the windows were at the most 3" tall. They had thrashed and finished it the night before. It had a wicked 289 in it. I'll post a picture of it. Their names were Mike, Dale or Dell, and Jaun. Dale took me for a ride in their cool little bucket - it flew and he laid some wheel till is got way sideways. Those guys were not aware of the hamb - but would fit right in if they had computers. anyway I enjoyed meeting them and the ride was awesome. Jaun had a cool 63 impala that was all tricked out.
There were also several thousand other rides there - some sucked but most were pretty awesome - a little too much turquoise and peach in some places - I'll post some of the pictures I took of both -
Well - My wife and I enjoyed meeting you guys - it made the show for us
Later On - Josh and Tracey

the show was good, nice selection of rides, some cool gassers and vintage tin. The weather was decent (a little cool at times) but had a good time. Met some new folks, drank beer with some old friends and just plain enjoyed myself .
Tudor. aka Mr. Flammer, It was great meeting you and the wife, just wished we could have met up earlier in the show.. For those that have not seen Tudor's ride, it is just bitchin, caught my eye the first day with its grey primer, no hood and red firewall and trio of carbss.. (pic coming soon)... and its a runner.
Yep, we had a good old fashion throttle fest on Hwy 29.. I think the ol wagon's power caught him off guard but he was pulling fast when we back out of it about a 1/4 mile down the road... After dinner he treated everyone to a very nice posi roast in the parking lot.. Very nice in deed..
The highlight for me was running on the track.. got to test out the new sway bars.. Passed about 8 cars, running full throttle most of the time..Tudor and I hit it coming out of turn 2 and at the end of the back straight going into turn 3 doing we were doing about 105 to 110mph.

The traffic was terrible.......wreck on I85 coming home (some car trailer came loose from the truck and crashed.....with 2 cars on the trailer) and a wreck on I77 at I85 coming up.

It was good to meet HeX and Tudornomore (yesssss, I'm just as much of an asshole that you would think I am) and catch up with Gay Ken and BonerflameA. As much as it pains me to say this, FlamedAbone fucking rocks, went out of his way to bring me some cool shit all the way from Charleston in his A. I owe ya a not-Heineken beer or 12, bro. I had a great time, but was pretty burned out since I way over-drink/smoke cigs on two weekends out of the year and this was one of them...it isn't as easy to recover anymore.
Anyways, learned a valuable lesson about baloney cutting headers, doing burnouts at Goodguys shows, and cruising a show with Flamed behind you (you're asking for attention or trouble....)
Here's a couple of shots of me and some good friends from the Vendettas (Raleighwood, NC) car club this weekend:

Remember, just this week I got a notice from the town to remove the "junk cars" from my yard. I hope the asshole who sent that notice drove by this weekend.
Here's an indication that my car may be a little small:

WOW, What a great time my son and I had at charlotte. I was very impressed with a lot of the craftmanship on the Phantom type cars even though they are not really my "cup of tea". My son had His 31 A coupe parked in the "young-guys" area and was picked for that award- You should have seen the grin on his face in front of all those people at the awards presentation--that alone made the last four years of work we put into it worhwhile!! Thay even gave all the "younguys entrants a free membership renewal, hat, mug, yearbook, etc. It was also a thrill doing a little over a 100 mph on the track Sat. night. He is hooked for good now,LOL. One little problem we had on the way up though-- The car wanted to change lane just by barely moving the steering wheel- it started just when we hit the 6 lane part of I-77 going thru charlotte-very scary. When we got to the track I looked under her and saw that the tw0 bolts that hold the rear panhard bar bracket to the pinion snout had come-a-loose and it was just hanging in the air. All I had to do was buy two more and bolt it back very tightly! This seems to be a common problem so CHECK YOURS if you have one. I probably would not be typing this if it had happened while we were going around the high banked speedway! anyway, It was good to see some of you, and sorry I missed some others, Happy Hotrodding, Dale

Is this the "silver fog" car from the 80's (maybe 70's ?) that was supposedly being built to compete for America's Most Beautiful Roadster award (build-up followed in Hot Rod or some other mag)? That car had some neat work, but the whole package didn't do it for me.

You front yard does rock even if the city does not like it, I thought it was required to have a few cars in the yard when you are a redneck, Oh I know whats wrong, they had tires on them..
