I'm at a point of in-decision with the direction me and Slick are headed.

My plan has always been to shave the fenders and hood, and leave the rest of the body stone stock. Then paint the body the original 58 Chevy green, with gray interior. Then to slam the thing down 6 inches all around, run some steelies and WWWs, and paint "Slick's Speed Shop" on the doors.

Make it a early sixties or late fifties shop truck.

But I as much as I love Hot Rods, I love the mountains. Every chance we get we head straight for the hills of New Mexico and camp. We are looking at porperty to buy somwhere near Cloudcroft NM now. Some of you know I have built a 1940 - 45 Tear drop trailer we tow up and camp in.

Now the in-decision! I am so tempted to go ahead with the entire plan on Slick, the paint, the steelies, and all. Except for the drop. I am so tempted to leave the suspionsion alone, and mount up some 31X10.50 Goodrichs and kinda have the best of both worlds. A truck I can Hot Rod in, and go up in them dar hills.

But damn, I never thought I would build somthing that would almost be a resto! And not slammed!!! Whats happening here??
What do ya'll think I should do?

Here is the pretty Miss Tina cookin' breakfast in the now finished Tear!

If you have another truck you could use I would go the original route, save the 58 for a toy. If you don't have another truck, leave suspension alone.

Just my 2 cents worth! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Build it like a late 50's 4x4 with the skinny knobies, i've seen pictures in old HRMs. Im not really into big trucks but i think that you could do something cool that is still hot rod style with it. Anyway the real reason for my reply is to ask what it cost in materials to build the tear drop?

I didn't build it, I restored it. It was built in WWII by the milatary. I had to strip it, and re-do just about everything on it. I put a new dropped axle and put in the kitchen and wood interior. I have maybe 5 - 6 hundred in it.

I'm going to try to build one once I get some cars in better shape, they look so simple. Thanks for the info.

Why not do your original plan, just lower it less, like 3 inches instead of six.

I'm with Abone on this. Pulling the teardrop with a vintage truck has a bigger payoff in cool than your everyday 6" drop for me. himmelberg
