Anyone know where I can look up (website maybe?) shocks by mount type and length dimensions?
I need some for the rear of my Elky that are between 2" to 3" shorter than stock, stock being 22" extended.

Where has this been all my life??? Now I don't have to suffer through the indignity of telling the guy at the parts counter that I need shocks for a Rambler http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif!

Thanks.

72 Dodge van front shocks are what I used on my Rambler.
No problem with my parts guy.
Oh wait, I AM my parts guy!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The car a shock is made for is important, too. I just changed the rears in my coupe, with some of similar length, but a different part number. It rides stiffer than hell. I hate 'em.

So, think about the weight of the car when you choose yours.

One other thing. Do not trust the figures given for maximum and minimum extension. Carefully measure the long and short lengths of the particular shock you choose in the parts store before plunking down the bucks. Good flippin' luck on getting exactly what you think you need if you have to order them sight unseen.

Thanks to Levis Classic's site find, I got the shox I needed.
I never would have found it on their site if he didn't give a direct link, by the way, it's totally not obvious that that information even exists there because their link's titles are so obscure...Why are so many like that?
Pepboys site has a link called "drivability" which is where they list types of chassis parts they stock - call local store for more info. anyway, what was I talking...

Oh yea, I printed out the Monroe list and walked over to the Pep Boys, (that's why I went there, Auto Zone is a block away and PB is three blocks away and NAPA is 6 miles across town,) and asked "where do you stock the shocks? and the girl pointed up the isle behind her counter, so that's where I went and started checking the "possibles" numbers I had already picked out on the 10 pages of shocks, and "LUCKY"!! the first one on the list was there!.
It's a MONROE-MATIC PLUS shock # 31000
It has loops on both ends and is 19.5" extended. (yes, I measured it extended, to make sure.)
That should work on most/all '58-'64 big Chevys.
Which is exactly what I was looking for, except it didn't have the two-bolt cross bar mount in the top loop like the car/truck needs.
Not to worry, I just pulled the bars out of the old shocks, and ground the corners of one end off rounded like and lubed it up with some electrician's wire lubricant,
It's kinda like KY jelly for conduit wiring,
and squeezed the bar into the new shock's mount loop with my bench vise, slid in just like it was a wet, you know... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

(One more thing, the stock shock is supposed to be 21.125" long, the Hi-Jackers that were in it were longer, at 22" and change.)

kyb has a down loadable catalog that you enter in the numbers.

All I can find is stock application by make model and year.
I was looking for a custom, non-stock length shock (this search is solved, but for the future!?)
Or, did I miss a "click here" somewhere on that maze of a site?
can you post the whole direct URL to their by the numbers catalog?
