I cannot for the life of me find the VIN on a 48 Chevy. I looked on the driver's side inside door seem and it was not there. Looked under the hood on the firewall and was not there either.
Any one know? I need the number by tomarrow for the bank.

I'm might be wrong, but didn't they use the Motor number as a VIN number? Or was that just on the trucks?

I'e seen an aluminum tag riveted to Passenger side floor ,about wher the feet would be that had some numbers on it. also on another[46-47-48] it was on lower frt door jamb above bottom hinge.
I think MOST of that vintage were titled by the number on the 216 block[on ledge near distributor]

I may be nuts, but i think I've seen 'em on the passenger side firewall (in the engine compartment), but like I said, I may be nuts...

The VIN in those days was stamped on a flat pad on the side of the engine next to the dist. Had several back in the 50s. Had a problem with one when I sold it as the engine had been changed but not taken to DMV to get title vin changed. Had been changed previously to my ownership, could not produce a bill of sale for the eng to show where it had been purchased so they would not issued me a change. My uncle owned a used car lot and made me up a "Bill of Sale" for the eng and that worked in Oregon in 1955.They issued me a new corrected title. My '51 didn't have an engine so I had to get the Highway Patrol to assign a number to it, they just used the body number. The title had the engine number on it before the change. My '54 wagon is still titled by the engine number. Some day I need to change that.
