I’m 6’7 and looking into starting a pre 40’s project. I was wondering what kind of rides the tall guys are building and driving. Right now I’m leaning toward a tudor, or 5 window coupe. I’d like to do a slight chop but nothing extreme, because of head room. But, I’m more concerned with leg room. I realize it will be tight, I just don’t want to be wedged in. So any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm nearly 7' and I like my narrowed '23 T bucket modified. Granted my knees are up to my chin but I think I look cool like a Roth monster. Grrrr. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
im 6'5, and fit in my dodge pretty good. its a 28 sedan, but ive been able to fit in other cars with not much of a problem. its all about where you can put your seat. if you can make your own seats, make em thin, saves a good 5 inches or so.

The amount of headroom you want is directly adjustable to the placment of the seat & what type of seat you decide to use . I would say chop the shit out of it ( as much as you are so inclined . . ) and then adjust the seat hight / possitioning to make up for any lost head room . I am 6'-3 1/2 " and my car is chopped like crazy . I stuck some early 60's T-Bird buckets right on the floor , and I probably have about 7 inches of headroom ( without a headliner )
I am stumped right now on the name of the guy who has all those Barris cars , but he is a tall guy and they had a bit in one of the mags about how he took the seat apart and had it re-stuffed so he sat a few inches lower in it . I would think doing something like that along with placing the seat right on the floor would take care of any of yoru troubles .

6'6, without boots and hair. I fit fine in my 49'Hudson, and 62 olds. Neither car is chopped. I did have a bit of a problem in my buddies 32 pickup, but that was chopped 4" and chanelled 6" (I think)...

I an just over 6 feet tall and almost 6'5 around the middle... I really miss seeing my feet and my johnson sometimes... And I fit fine in my 29 Sport Coupe. I even had to move the seat forward of the back wall of the interior about 6-inches so I could reach the pedals. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was just confused as to what Killer would be doing down there... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif And I can confirm you are just over 6' cause your feet were hanging off the bed last time you slept over... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Oh and by the way I'm 6'4" and with a stock seat, a Model A pickup is too small for me. I upgraded (though some would call it downgraded) to a '31 A sedan. Even with the seat in the stock position it's a little snug in the knees dept (even with a 14" wheel) so the drivers seat will eventually get a slider track.

um, yep, I'm 6'6"..
From all my travels in roadsters or coupes, whether they be stock or chopped/channeled or whatever I'd say look at the following areas:
1) Seat, yeah the height and thickness. I'd say make it as low as possible and as far back as possible. I've seen some people sort of recess the thickness of the seat back inside where the roadster body wraps around behind you, so you still have the thickness and comfort of a thick seat but it doesnt stick out into the interior too much.
2) Firewall and dashboard height are sometimes killer..you know when the dashboard digs in the top of your shins...maybe you could change this area??
3) Height of the seat in the floor. Maybe you could drop it down in the floor a bit or sumthin??
4) Steering wheel location...If you are building from scratch you can always make the angle of the column or where the wheel is a bit more friendly..
and, thats about it for me.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

6' 5" Everything I own is a 4 door for a reason. Most of my friends are over 6'4", all have long hair, fur vests and viking helmets. We love going out on town and terrorizing villages.
When I sold my old daily driver, I didn't notice until the new owner was taking it for a test drive, but the headliner was worn above where my head usually was. I'm serious.... Glad they never noticed. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Still there are like plenty of room between my head and the headliner in a stock 54 Chevy. Chopping it 3 inches or so wont matter much there.

I am comparatively short at 6'4'. I have an A model roadster with a 4inch recessed firewall. Why no-one mentioned that fact that I'd be short on leg-room or why I never thought about it is a mystery!
I'm contemplating cutting into the back and placing the seat rearwards - kinda gasser style...or cutting my legs of a bit!
