The body arrived today at the shipping yard, and a hour after its laying in my back yard, ready for me to chop up..

Got it from enjenjo who crated it up and shiped it off...

It was cheep enough, and i needed something pronto for mock up dimentions...

Its only for mock up, ill be getting something in better shape later down the road, but for now its inspration to get my ass in gear..

Those appear to be '61/'62 Chevy gauges...aluminum surrounds, orange or red needles, correct? NOT aftermarket...and probably won't ever work again.

1912 Edsel-Alley Ostrich?

Don't scrap the cowell, you can make up whatever is needed to repair it. Trust me the leg room is a plus, even if your short legged like me.

1912! edsel? You shittin me!!

Ill have to cut the cowl.. Its to bad for patch panel..

To tell you the truth, it has alot of leg room for a 6'4 Gaint.Even if i cut the cowl a bit...

Im only going to loose about 5-6 inches.. I masked it off with 1/8th tape and it doesnt look too bad.. Ran out of batterys and couldnt take a picture

Chop this section out along the red line.

Caffine, ill be at the strip.. Find me and ill get your ticket for the harly show.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like the horse collar cowl. Your photo shop pic looks like another glass T bucket. That cowl would stand out in a crowd. IMHO

No "Edsel Alley Ostrich". Company was only in business about half a year, they made one car and it had a bad cowel. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Ah hell I made it up alright? Looks rough but fun.

I second the motion for keeping the cowl. reinforce the lip with some 1/2 inch square tubing. Bend it to the shape of the passenger side and match the driver's side to it. The body has lots of character now.

What are your plans for it? What kind of look are you going for?

yeah, I've seen the body too. Didn't enjenjo say at some point that the body was a Dodge touring sedan from the teens?

i agree do not shorten the cowl. it does not look like a tough piece to make up.

I agree with the "leave the cowl" crowd. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif And I think you should leave the wheel well...it would look like an altered!

Im going for a suicide modified. Low and mean.. It does look alot better with the cowl uncut... Im just worried about my skills to bend this bitch to match up...

Im going to spend a couple hours cleaning it up and sand blasting today... Ill take some measurments for cow and fit the bottom peice.. Gotta weld some supports so the body doesnt twist even more..

Not sure if im going to leave the wheel wells..Who knows if im going to keep this body or not..

08-05-2004, 05:35 PM
Your next step should be to get a frame under it. Build the subfloor then work up with the bracing. Our modified has the floor welded into the frame. The body is held together by channel iron that sits on top of the frame and the bracing comes up off of it.

The cowl looks like a 1919 or 20 Franklin. I vote for the round cowl.
