Well the other day i was bored so i vise gripped the glass shell and my Guides on. In the next week or so we are gonna start puttin together the rear with my Tri Link, Coil overs, and my 9 inch Ford. Then by that time i should have enough money saved for the front suspension. We already got the clutch/brake assembly, column, steering shaft/joints and other stuff so it should be smooth sailin. Cant wait to have a rollin chassis.

P.S. Germ asked for some pictures so i figured id post a few JUST for HIM. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Great project Nic, It's great to see a young guy with so much passion for the hobby. Glass or not, I wish I had the availablity of a project like that when I was 16. I can remember working on a Lark ,of all things when, I was 15-16.
You got my blessing too! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nick, looks like your making some progress. Don't let thoughts of the ladies take away your focus. You (and guys your age) have a tough balancing act, school, job, girls, family, friends, cars, etc. Keep your focus and you'll accomplish all your goals in life.

Your a great guy. I enjoyed meeting you in L'ville this year. Me and my dad had a nice time hanging with you and your dad. Looking forward to doing it again soon. Next time you'll take me for a ride in your car http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When I was 16 I had a 77 LTD II and wrecked it, a 76 Monte Carlo and wrecked it, then an 81 Grand Prix and wrecked it, then an 88 Ranger and wrecked it, 4 times. It's a good thing I didn't have a 32 when I was in high school. I hope you drive better than I did at 16. I guess you shouldn't jump railroad tracks and play chase with your buddies. The Dukes of Hazzard were a bad influence on me.

Coil overs suck, and fiberglass in America sucks too, but this is a 16 year old. Keep it up homey.

A father and son building a car togeather is great. My son and I have been building stuff togeather since before he could talk. Now he's building cars for his buddys and working on my customers cars, I couldn't be more proud. And I'm sure Nicks dad will be very proud of his son as the project progresses.
And the way I see it if it's not stock it's a HOTROD. No matter what it's made of.

At sixteen (or 40!), I would've killed for that project, (or a dad that was a hotrodder)....you are a very fortunate young man.

Nick, I think that your car is coming along really nice. Just remember that it is hard to make progress every day. The only advise I can lend is don't get discouraged when your working hard and it doesn't seem to be getting finished fast enough. OH, and ignore all of the internet hot rod politics.

This post is really cool, especially for a newbie to read. I've been in the custom art scene for about 5 years, but am just starting my first custom build. I have been sort of scared to post here since I don't know the unspoken code book yet, and because I am considering a glass body. I'm a single, 24 year old father, who gets by paycheck to paycheck, but I love what I do. Money is definately an issue for me so forgive me if I don't build a million dollar car, but I do have PASSION, and posts like this are inspiring.

All I can say is I WISH my dad was my mentor and would have built a hot rod with me. He is one of those "ALL BUSINESS" types who thinks building a hot rod is a waste of time, money and effort and doesn't understand I get the same feeling of accomplishment from fixing something or laying some badass pinstriping lines as he does when he... well whatever the hell he does. He's never really shared what he does... maybe he's a itman or something.

Anyways, I'm just saying I want a mentor that wants to talk to ME about cars too, and that is truly interested in helping me. I know I will do the same for any young pinstriper or hot rodder in the future... almost sounds like a damn personal ad... sorry sounding so sappy!LOL.

The original point of this thread is really inspiring. I have twin sons who are about to turn 12 and they have helped me every step of the way on my '57 Fairlane for the last four years. They are both REALLY into traditional rodding and know a hell of a lot more than I did at 12. I am planning on getting them both their own project cars when they turn 14 so we can spend a couple of years building it and they can drive their own creation when they're 16.

Man, we're gonna need a bigger garage SOON!

BTW, I taught my daughter how to weld and hack two weeks ago, she's 17. We made a TV table together, she did all the cutting, measuring, welding and grinding. I shoulda done it years ago, it was one of the best weekends I've ever had.

You will get more mentors/friends off this place than you will know what to do with! There are real, honest to god genius builders on here, super cool people, eccentrics, famous lurkers, crack pots (me!) and possible friends for life to be found here. Like someone above said, its about passion, not money!

That's definitely a good thing. I'm really diggin' the people involved with this scene. It's nice to be around some REAL people with REAL passions. I'm just here to learn so if you want to pretend I'm your 10 year old son it might make the idiotic questions a little easier to answer...LOL! But, honestly I have learned more about frames and suspension in the past month than I really thought was possible. It's nice to be able to ask a question rather than dig and dig and dig only never to really clarify the answer.

Anyways, thanks again and I will post plenty of progress on whatever I finally decide to build.
