I just traded a POS 84 F150 with a blown engine for an engine from a 1952 F100. The head says it is an 8RT, and it also says 44E on the other head. I know that it is the truck version of the 8BA, but what makes it different?

I got the engine complete from carb to oil pan, along with the bellhousing and the flywheel. Do you think it was a good deal?

That's like a man asking his buddies if his wife is beautiful.............

I'd take the flathead any day over the 84. If it's uncracked it's an even better deal.

8RT is a truck head
8BA is car head
Then you'll find a whole bunch of irregular markings that mean nothing except that the mold guy was having fun when he cast them.

Bellhousing (cast iron/11"clutch) and cover plate are different, EAB carb onstead the 94-8RT, truck water pumps with 5/8" belt, oilpan and valve springs/retainers are different too.
But you can swap parts back and forth how ever you want.
Just dont mix bellhousing and cover plates and also not springs and retainers of the different type.

It may have a 4 inch Merc crank.
I would be very glad if you could verify this.
And if the crank have some marking like 1CM

I won't get time to open it up for a while, but the guy I got it from popped one of the heads off and didn't see any cracks. It came out of a running truck about a year ago. It's nice to see that for once, a car deal hasn't screwed me over too bad.
