Does size matter ?

This photo is Carl's Spitz's Volvo powered dragster and ran 4X class in So. Cal. It
was a B1600 engine bored .030" over with considerable rework inside.
Running the SU carbs shown in the picture it ran 105 on gas. The SU's were
replaced with two Ford 97's on a homemade manifold and this one change
bumped up the time to 115 on gas. The car went 125mph on alcohol. This
picture was taken at San Fernando around 1964.

If I can get mine anywhere close to these figures I'll be very happy,but I think weight will probably will probably keep things a lot slower.If anyone has any more info on this car or driver it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

No info, but just build it as light as you can and it should be quick.

Pounds per horsepower is the name of the game.......if you cant have "big horsepower" just keep the weight little.:D

There used to be a guy in So. Cal. about 1962 who ran a V-8 60 21 stud flathead in a ultra lite chassis. It looked quite a bit like the one pictured and he ran all 3 gears and ran about 110 mph on gas. That little motor couldn't put out to much HP he said he bought the motor off a guy who ran a midget race car. He said he never even took the head off he just put it in the car and ran it.If you remember Sneaky Pete Robertson who was a fanatic on weight. He won with Chev small block dragster that weighed in at about 1200 lbs. Try pushing a 1960 Cadillac or a GM Geo, which do you think you could move first?;)Roy

Great way to put it. With our limited tire size, we aren't going to couple up massive horsepower, so the less we have to haul down the strip, the quicker we are going to get there.:D
