What is a P-plate on a car?

means "probationary"...
basically, when you're sixteen, you get "L" (learner) plates which means you can drive under instruction from a fully licenced driver.
when you turn 18 you get your "P's", which is a licence to drive, but you can't consume any alcohol, or teach a learner...
ages vary a bit state to state.

32 years ago i was driving around the eastern suburbs of Melbourne with a big red and white P plate on the front and rear bumper of my 1968 GTS Holden Monaro. Man we all felt like idiots with that red P for a whole year. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif If you did,nt display the P in your first year you would be fined.
Also the cops were allways keeping an eye out for young kids
with P plates and a fast car.

Well Paul, I worked my ass off to save enough money to buy
that GTS. They,re sought after now but the Falcon GTs and
GTHOs seem to be the most wanted models these days.I believe
the R/T 49 Valiant Chargers are impossible to find. What,s
the score in N.Z.?

I reckon you would have worked hard to save for that, no instant finance in them days.....
All those cars are worth good $ here too, the Falcons top dollar, followed by Monaro, Charger and Torana I guess.... I guess for me I've always liked the 327 Monaro and the XRGT back where it all started, still see Bathurst Xu1's here under 10k from time to time but pretty much everything else is up from there if its interesting.
