Step 1 - Hang air freshener

Step 4 - Make shade, I found out today that my bird is equipped with the rare dual umbrella holder accesory

Step 5 - Gently coerce the engine/tranny out of its home, while stopping to pose for a picture.

That was the original plan, but subsequent load testing of the available trees proved that the solid lead engine (so it seems) would be too heavy for the branches.

And the engine is coming out because it is old and tired. it ran (poorly) when I got it, needs rings and a valve job at the very least. gonna go ahead and rebuild it.

At least you missed the part where you pull on the loaded hoist, and the whole shit comes out from under itself, and the motor/trans crushes the front grill, etc...
Prime Mover, we desert people have a junk truck specially designated as the engine picker-mounted in the back truck. No plywood necessary!

Hehe, when I lived in an apartment complex last year, my garage neighbor (the guy renting the garage next to me) was evicted for using one of the complex' trees and a comealong to pull the engine out of an Olds Cutlass.

Apparently the landlord didn't like the new touch of class it added to the place.

PS: Nice lookin engine hoist you got there. We borrowed one from the parts store for a year and they never asked for it back.. Finally we took it back out of guilt..

In my case, this store's manager gave orders to not rent it out anymore, due to potential liability issues. So we asked "well how about for free, and we sign a paper stating if we kill ourselves you're not liable?"

yeah, I forgot too mention the 100+ degree temp, tranny fluid leaking onto my face, not having long enough bolts to put it on the stand on sunday night, having to wake up damn early to go get bolts, engine not wanting to fit on the stand, returning the hoist to the hardware store and making it to work 2 hours late this morning. So I just took the heads and intake off, seems it was already rebuilt, as its got .030 over pistons in it. also suffers from a burnt valve and one alien infested cylinder, it looks like something you would find if you left a full open coke can in some long forgotten corner and just found it. Its all black, rusty and has these white speckles in it. Gross.

I'll show you the pics of the inside of of the engine once I get 'em online. You should see how nice the interior cleanup up, its almost really nice.

That IS a good lookin Bird, looks really straight (lookin in the reflections) I had a chance to buy a really nice '62 last week at auction, brought too much for me.
