Another paint question, when colorsanding the clear on a bc/cc, what do you use for compound curves? i.e. 30's Ford fenders etc. Foam blocks? I want the next paint I lay down on the 36 to be glass.......

Thanks again

I use a rubber block (pad)...I've had it for years...about a quarter of an inch thick and about five by three inches...stick sanding is still my favorite....but,when a paint stick is too unflexible, I use a stainless steel ruler. You can use anything flat and cut to the size you like....plexiglass...etc

I'll follow right along with the last post, I use a flat rubber pad I got at the paint str.I also use my steel rule, a hack saw blade, round dowels, paint sticks, use what you need. you can tell if your getting the results you need, but pay really close attention, and feel with your hand and you shouldn't go wrong.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Don't the sharp edges tend to dig into the clear if you use a flat ruler (stainless)?

Digging in with the edge of 'block' can happen, esp. if dry or too much unequal pressure place on sanding block. Foam block's I use. Pressure must be equal and constant through each pass. Plenty of water, clean surface, fresh paper. I love this stage of painting.

Don't use the edge...sand with the stick center balanced on the crown.

I guess I should mention....I use many types of sanding "blocks"....all shapes, sizes and material...foam,,,hard rubber, wood,etc....It takes awhile to find or make what suits you best....you will know when you "hit" on one that really works best for you....keep experimenting.

Nobody mentioned it but I'm assuming everyone has placed a bar of Ivory soap in the sanding bucket.

Good point...whenever I can, I use a garden hose....constant flushing of debris.

Here's my usual setup...

I have a 5 gallon bucket with some dish soap in it. I have a water hose handy with a sprayer head attached....to save on water usage.

I use a foam block and one of the red rubber blocks...that's all I have. I have never heard of guidecoating the clear but it intrigues me. I was just wondering if there were "finish blocks" for color sanding in different shapes?

Root, another method is a piece of plexiglas with 80 grit glued to one side and the prefered grit held to the other.
The plexiglas will contour your curve and the 80 grit will hold your hand to the tool.
After the bleeding stops, and calluses build up, you will like it.
Frankie showed me that when we sanded the 62 and Rick's 32.
