after much searching for parts my Hemi is starting to shape up. The last piece of the puzzle was a Flamethrower. I was able to find this n.o.s. Grant unit. It also has a n.o.s Weiand 4x2 manifold with 81's. On the back another n.o.s. piece, a Wilcap adapter to a Ford 3 speed toploader converted with a Jeep shift tower hooked to a '57 9 inch. Should get down the road just fine!

Agree with Brush, that's going to be one sweet looking engine. Isn't it amazing that there is still stuff like that around that's unused?

Thats really COOL Robert- I have never saw the"super"red ram covers- is that an orig part or a custom made set?

Frank, I feel the same way but the stuff turns up if you look hard enough. A good friend of mine had a conversation with Vic Edelbrock Jr. recently who told him that over half of the aftermarket items sold never get used. They either end up in inventory or on a shelf for a project that never comes to fruition. Seems like a high number but yet this stuff keeps popping up. Case in point, this Flamethrower came in the original box with the receipt included. It was purchased in 1966 and had sat in the trunk of the unfinished car until I purchased it a few weeks ago.

Thats a sweet setup I'm building a 270 for my 52 Plymouth. I have a pair of those valve cover that arn't stamped. I going to weld in a stamped plymouth logo and have them chromed just to screw with the MOPAR guys that know everything.
.
I ran a SPALDING FLAMETHROWER (before Grant bought them)in my 374 inch Packard Powered 51 Olds 88 club coupe in the early 60's,what a great design. I don't know if anyone told you that you need to run a 4 cylinder tach with that. it breaks the V-8 ignition in half with two coils so you have two four cylinders running. gives them more time to build spark at high rpm. when you get that running pull a plug wire while its running it fires a bright blue spark over 1 1/2 inches at idle http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif oh I've got stories about that car lol http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

ESnacky6, the lenses are in the works as well as the '41 President,
Jeem, thanks, this motor should be a fun build-up,
48 hemi, this Flamethrower came in the original box which also contained the manual. It is actually quite a complex distributor, 2 - 4 cylinder units in one body, a very neat piece. Here are a few more goodies I've found; A n.o.s Schiefer aluminum flywheel with bronze face and matching n.o.s aluminum pressure plate.

here's a set of n.o.s Gotha adjustable rockers. For a motor that I was told would be next to impossible to find speed equipment for there sure is a lot of new stuff around. That is if you look hard enough!

I picked up a 270 that was in a Dodge PU. the guy that painted Fuelpumps '50 convert had it sitting in the back of his shop. I hadn't run in years and was covered with a thick layer of grunge. I brought it home, bought a Dist. cap, 2 sets of points, and a set of plug wires. Changed out the parts and hooked up a battery while it sat on the floor of the shop. Poured some gas in the carb, jumped the starter and the bitch fired right up and proceeded to blow carbon, dirt, and mouse nests all over the shop. The thing holds 60 lbs of oil pressure and after starting it a couple of times the internal noises have quieted down and it idles like a watch with almost zero blowby.
I've found an N.O.S. tripower intake and a set of header flanges already and I'm keeping my eye out for anything else I might need for a rebuild.

Very cool Robert, I too have a flamethrower. When the 348 is running I hope to modify mine to fit it. Thats a fine motor

That sure is gonna be a sweet motor, love them old speed parts.. I have to say, them redram and super rams are just hard to find cool parts for.. I found a couple but need some more for my other project.. Does the 4x2 intake fit with out modifying the front of the engine? Here's mine in the cabriolet.

yeah - the Mopar guys are the Trekkies of the Hot Rod world... It is nice when you need a part number, though!
Sweet little engine you got there mr.midnite. I hope you run the stock valve covers. How many HP are you realistically going to get out of it?
Hey 48 Hemi, tell me more about your Packard engined Olds. Do you have any pictures?
Were people running Packard motors back then?
Am I the only kook running one on '04?

continentaljohn, the only thing I need to change is the oil fill tube, other than that it fits just fine.
Nads, absolutely gonna run the stock valve covers, they are too kool for school! As far as H.P., I would think somewhere in the neighborhood of 225-250. Not a big cube motor but plenty of torque. Also, it's very hard to beat the looks of a hemi with multi carbs in my opinion.
