I have had some V belt problems with the Roadster, and while looking for the cause, I noticed that the pulley's are designed for a belt that is not as fat as the 3/8 wide one that is sold everywhere.
Hot Rod Ron found me a NOS one that fits good, but we dont know how old it is. Where do I go when this one fails?
I dont want to change the pulley's.

McMaster-Carr has all different sizes.

Anybody know if industrial belts wouldn't work in an automotive application, I'm not an engineer... yet.

Gates makes some 5/16 width belts but there are fewer sizes than there are in 3/8.

I'm not sure what the official nomenclature represents, but get a "13 series" belt. Most standard belts are "15 series" as in 15135 means a 15 series 135 inches circumference. Or something like that. You can figure it out easy once you are at the parts store. The real fat belts are 17 series.
I think the 13, 15 or 17 is a reference to the width of the belt in 32nds of an inch? Maybe? I do know that the 13 series are narrower than the regular 15 series.
I used a 13 series on my old drag car that had standard depth pulleys and it helped the belt from flying off, as the belt sat deeper in the pulley. Sounds like exactly what you need.

Go to NAPA give it to the guy behind the counter and say, "Uh, I need a couple of these"
Put one on, one under the seat, and hang the original on the shop wall.
Then when you blow a belt, put the spare on, snag the old one off the wall, go to NAPA... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Metalshapes,
If you don't have any luck, let me know the length belt you need.Measure the pullies not the old belt (it's probably stretched all to shit). you might be able to use a 3L belt from an industrial application. I use Gates whenever possible,IMHO they make the best belt you can buy.email me here gordonb@broadcom.com

Thanks for the info guys.
I was getting a little tired of having to put the belt back on a hot engine time after time, and it is only a matter of time until one of them will take out the blower belt.
Yeah... it is probably all RPM related...
