Nice job!

Where did you get the new mirror? Can you get them new pretty easily from glass shops? What should the non-glazer types use to smooth down the edges of the new peice of glass? Just sandpaper? or is there something special?

How did you make the cut-- regular glass cutter tool or something special? I always manage to destroy every piece of glass I touch...
Also, NAPA has a catalog with a page of replacement glasses for late OEM mirrors--the extremely lucky might locate something just right ready cut.
Ancient, incredible tech tip from a 1920's Poular Mechanics--can it really be true? Anyone care to try?
PM claimed that regular glass could be cut to shape with TINSNIPS (!) if the cutting was done with glass and tool fully submerged in water! I've never tested this, because I don't like the idea of broken glass in my bathtub...

I'll bet the old man just used a common glass cutter and his glass grinder. I have used emory cloth or sand paper to smooth the sharp edges before and a little tranny fluid to get rid of the chalky looking edge.

Funny, I needed a convex mirror on the right side of my cabriolet. It has the small peep mirrors(3 in.dia.). So I bought a stick on convex about 5" diameter at the local NAPA store. They are made of plastic so I covered it with masking tape, drew a 3" circle and sawed it out on a band saw, then siliconed it over the original mirror. Works great. I don't know what they use but the plastic doesn't scratch. They've been on there 6 years. Also have them on another car and they've been on there 19 years. You have to get used to them though. If you can see a car in the mirror, it is right behind you, closer than you think.

Pull-A-Part mirror, Ford truck. Regular glass cutter(circle cutter). This glass is kinda? heat treated and mirrored on the face not the back. A little hard to cut. Polished on my wet glass grinder(106X4 belt) Went on a 100K+ 51 Merc Cvt............OLDBEET
