Took it for a spin for the first time in almost a year on Saturday.
1. Overheated and spewed antifreeze all over the windshield.
2. Had to real rev it to get it to move.
Fix #1. Took out the thermostat.
Fix #2 Did you know automatics will hold almost 10 quarts of fluid?
Drive 2 on Sunday.
Going great. Stopped to say hi to a neighbor. Stopped. Out of gas. Bleeding trans fluid.
Fix #3 Put more gas in. Died again. Changed fuel filter to get the crap from the bottom of the tank out. Runs fine
Fix #4 Did you know that if you don't put the speedometer cable in that fluid will leak out the hole in the tailshaft after you put those 10 quarts in?
Fix #1 Free
Fix #2 $1.00 for 5 quarts of ATF at the neighbors garage sale.
Fix #3 $4.50 in gas. $2.50 fuel filter.
Fix #4 Free. And by the way the bolt that holds the speedometer cable in on a turbo 350 is metric size 6 1.00 pitch and is hard to find in a pile of bolts, nuts, and screws.
Driving around the neighborhood with no hood or fenders bleeding tranny fluid............PRICELESS!

10 quarts? Just means you need to drop down to a 9" convertor, the one you have now is quite obviously way to large to move that truck. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the replies.
I didn't really think about the tc size. I think before looking at swapping it I will make sure all holes are filled first and then fill it up. I would bet 3 or 4 of those quarts are in my neighborhood. I left a trail 2-3 inches long with two big puddles where I stopped both times.
I'll know better next time but man it's tempting to just get in and go. I've been screwing with it forever and every time I think........all I have left to do is this............It turns in to hours of looking for a little part or fabricating something to make it fit or work.
I hope next time to finish hooking up the speedo and making a set of gauges for the truck. The 54 cheby trucks are larger than 47-53 and all of the after market stuff is made to fit them. I have a worthless 54 gauge setup that I'm going to put a new after market set in and putting back
where the original set went.
