View Full Version : 348/409 Federal Mogul and Clevite #s needed
OK, I took the 348 to my new machinist tonight. I want to get him some part #s and make his life easy. I know F/M and Clevite make Rod and main bearings. Looks like my crank will need to go 10 under. The block needs to be line bored. I have been on a couple 409 sites but dont know if the part #s given are from the Mfgrs or just what the site uses. I dont want to pay a third party for something that I or my Machinist can order cheaper. I call it the FLATHEAD JACK REPACKAGE strategy http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I hate that, make it sound like they are the only place you can find it..at their inflated prices!

I don't know what the P/N's are, but the rod journals are the same size as BBC, if that makes it any easier for you.

Distributor points, condenser, vacuum advance, cap are early small/big block.
You can also order all this crap through this guy, too.

Thanks guys, travis,I have lots of that info in my notes nut yours is better organized!!!!!
Any ideas on P/Ns?
I know my guy can find em from his suppliers but I wanna help it along. He has been building motors for the last year or so and has more Sprint Car mills under his belt than anything. Kid knows his shit, he asked the right questions when I dropped off the mill. I am Guinea Pigging him with my motor and he knows I will reccomendo him to many others if he does well. Our 2 shops in town dont have a stellar record, he is an hour north of me.

That's not mine... That's a copy and paste from MR. 409! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I do suggest maybe buying a kit from that dude... might be cheaper for you in the long run.

Oh yea, Hell Rocky, most all Professional Race engine builders are using rod bearing journals that are the same size as a Honda 4 cyl....in motors that make 800-1500 HP!
We offer some engine bearings up to 60 ths undersize.
Glenn
Thanks Glenn, I knew you would see this post http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif. I will get those #s to Austin, he is hooked up with ya'all.

Thanks Glenn, I gave my #s to Austin. He was glad to see that you guys make mains in 20. Clevite didnt list any....whew! By the time I called him, he had already done leg work on my motor, I am a few hundred dollars while he makes his money with 20K race motors!!!!!!! I felt good about him. BTW, his motors have been whupping Gaerte motors at our local track! AND holding up. Damn!

Hey guys,I have a few 348's and just recently bought a 64 409 that I plan on putting in a 62 belair sedan,(wish I could find a 62 motor, but this one took over a year to get)Glen,I could use some guts from you also,Do you have a website/store? I know of a few 409 sites also, but would rather deal with someone who actually uses this stuff, and knows their limits.Mine is only a 340 horse, with 817 heads, but would like to get 400 at least.I plan on mating it up to a close ratio muncie, and prolly just run one four barrel. Thanks patrick
