I was hanging out at Tom Culbertson's shop today working on the bead roller and english wheel like a rookie and watching he and Pete build an incredible roadster when we came up with an ingenious idea. There were three of us in there disturbing him while he tried to work because we were all in various places playing with all of his cool toys. This apparently happens to him a lot.

The result? He is hosting a two day class to get familiar with the basics of metal working...a little bit of english wheel, shrinker, stretcher, plasma cutter, welder, bead roller, and trusty old hammer. It is from 9 to 5 saturday and sunday August 7 and 8. $200 covers it all including lunch from Naomi and materials used. There are ten spaces but three of them filled today with us clowns in the shop so 7 more are available. Call Tom at 317-244-8271 or e-mail me on the board here. I'll try to get some roadster pictures on because it ties in pretty well with Ryan's "My back hurts" post from a few days ago.

um...200 bucks? no thanks. you should go talk to Denny Jamison about metal working. he has a shop on gasoline alley called Automotive Hammerart and does everything from custom work to restorations on 1930's Rolls Royces. THAT guy really knows how to work some sheetmetal! he's got all the tools also, beverly shear, metal brakes, roto punches, english wheel, louver press, lathe, right down to the good ol' hammer and bag. he turns out some amazing stuff.

I've heard that he is really good over there but I doubt he wants ten people standing around him for two days wanting lunch and knowledge through undivided attention. If I am wrong, ask him to put on a class. I'd love to learn more.
