Will a 6 cylinder radiator keep a V8 engine cool?

I plan on adding AC to the car one day.

Thank you.

Prob' will work ,Nads- but you'll need to add a shroud to surround the fan as it will be back farther away from core with the eight,OR it WILL HEAT......

Alot of the older cars used the same radiator for eight or six cylinders. You can always change out the radiator if its not large enough to handle AC.
Now if your buying one.. check out the number of tubes and rows and compare the capacity.

A 283 with an RV cam would probably stay cool running two heater cores for a radiator.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So, Yes

Put a 60 chevy V8 fan shroud on it.. It looks like a slice out of a steel storage drum with brackets on both sides, hint, hint.

Nads-

I intend to find that out myself as I am doing a 60 El Camino with a 283. I have one V8 radiator left and two 235's. The difference is that the 235 radiator is shorter than the V8 by a few inches but otherwise appears the same. 235's never had fan shrouds but I think a V8 one would bolt right on. Let me know how yours works, as you're going to finish before I am.

Thanks for the tips fellas. I love you all in a deep and passionate way, especially DrJ, he's my homie. We're going to eat baked beans out of the same cup when we go camping in the Pocono's next year.

Running auto tran's? Add tran's cooler. Upgrade stock water pump w/ Summit #BRA-3500-01 ($6.00+ship) impeller disk. Reduce's cavation and increase flow. Having radiator boiled out too.

I have a 1960. I just wandered around the pick a part until I found a car with a big V-8 and a newish/clean looking radiator. I think it was in a 70's Monte Carlo. Then I chopped up and old aluminum step ladder I found in a dumpster. Laid a piece across the frame rails, bolted the top step to the top and ran a 1" strip of aluminum from the top to bottom pieces. A few pieces of rubber padding, and I had a 3 core, cross flow radiator for something like $30. The 70's GM Mid sized radiator is about 3-4" too wide for the stock 60 Chevy opening, but the height is perfect.

My Parkwood Wagon runs 190-210 degrees in normal driving, but it does heat up in L.A. mostly stop and little go driving. I'm using the universal bent piece of chrome shroud. I'm running a warmed over 350 with the stock accesory drive pulleys. I don't think the fan and water pump turn fast enough at idle to really cool it even with a shroud
