Hey I'm getting ready to try and cut the windshield for the 54 and I was wondering what grit sand do those of you who sanblast windshields to cut them use? I need to go buy some while I have a little bit of money left.
Thanks in advance.

I buy fine grade or fine size white silica sand at the local cement plant that also sells masonry supplies. Cost about $8 a bag. Some building supply stores that specialize in masonry supplies also sell the sand. Make sure it is in a dry bag.

Tape the entire W/S except the part you want to cut ( a 1/4 in gap will do)( and tape it with heavy duct tape). Slowly sand blast, taking care not to overheat anywhere. Make sure you have some kind of backing (sand pile, pillows) as not to stress the W/S. When you reach the plastic center, turn over CARFULLY, and do the other side the same. Then cut the plastic with a razor blade. Take it to a glass shop and have them flat grind to your cut line and seam. Seam=to grind the sharp edge slightly. Remove the tape carfully and hope its not broke! Take your time, it often works well.........OLDBEET

how about this... im a tile seter buy trade, and i some times use a 4" diamond blade on a grinder to cut tile. try suporting the glass flat, and cuting it that way. the blade runs about $10 at home despot. use the smooth non-seraded blade, and a small a mount of water will help.
Heres a link to a post I did almost a year ago that may help a little..
