I just came out of the garage and am ready to commit Hari Kari!
This ignition switch does not want to come out! It is different than the early mustangs with the slotted bezel. This one has a bezel and is spring loaded behind the dash. I tried to push it out from the back and the bezel will move out slightly but will not turn. I don't want to wreck the chrome by using pliers or a vice grips. I tried to turn the switch while the bezel is in the 2 slots at the hole in the dash. It will not turn! I finally removed the back of the switch (the plastic round piece that makes the contacts) and can barely see what is inside retaining it to the dash. There is a cupped washer between the dash and the spring on the inside. There is also a tiny hole on the face of the switch where the key goes and I am assuming this is for tumbler removal. I tried that to no avail.
Does anyone know how to take this out?

Yes, It`s the same as early Falcons. Put a small pin in the hole and push in as you turn the key to acc side of switch . And it should come right on out. Also thats the only way you can remove the rest of the switch. Hope this helps, Gasserman

Thank's for the tip! I did try it with the key and pin, but not turning towards the acc side. I just wiggled it back and forth. I will try it again tomorrow morning and let you know.
My experience working on Fords starts at 1967. Poor design on the 64's. I guess it would be helpful to get a manual but this is going to be an AFX 427 clone that I am building strictly for Nostalgia SS. This swich is the last piece I needed to take out before prep and painting.
Will let you know.
Thanks again.
Mike

This switch still does not want to come out. I pushed the pin in and turned towards the acc. side but it will not budge. I removed the back of the switch with the 2 plastic contact plates and am now able to see the back inside of the switch and there is a cam inside that turns with the key but will not release! Is this where the pin hits in a certain spot to push out and release the cam?
I still can't figure how it comes out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem on my '73 Ford Pickup.. It took me a couple times with the small pin and cussing it but it came out.

I'm out of cuss words on this one. I even looked inside the back of the switch to see what is holding it back, but am still trying to figure it out. There is a small cam that turns while the key turning. To make matters worse, some how the tumbler is out of position and it only appears to have a range of 10 degrees. I may go back to the vice grips and the heck with the chrome bezel!
