I'm going to San Diego and will be there from August 4th til the 16th. Apparently San Diego is a village on the old Royal Highway right between Piso Mojado and Disneyland. I won't be free until the 8th or 9th, as I'm going for a wedding and won't be allowed out even to look at roadsters, but after that I have a few days and a car. What's up and what should I see? Is Ed Stewart's shop still at 3210 Congress street? Car museums/shows/swapmeets/races ? Interesting olde Ford related businesses?

Hey Bruce! My kids live there. They say that OLD TOWN,has a cruise night on the weekends. You might check out the drags, at Carlsbad raceway,in Oceanside. I don't know if its still open, but its an old dragstrip, next to the airport,in oceanside. Have a nice trip, San Deigo is a paradise,(I think.) Glenn

Bruce, you'll be within 800 or so miles of Bonneville. Give that some thought. Wayno

Well checked some of the web sites for local stuff, thought maybe our little local swap meet might fall on a date that your here, but no dice. Barona Indian reservation has a cool little 1/8 mile about 30 miles or so from downtown. Unfortuanately, the next Antique Drags aren't until Oct, but they still race most weekends.

The San Diego Automotie Museum is worth the 7 bucks to get in. It's in Balboa Park next to the Aerospace Museum which is a definite MUST SEE.

Several cruise nights here in the land of eternal summer. WEds in El Cajon go off, Thursday's in La Mesa are quaint, and Fridays in Escondido is a ball. Also on Fridays, some of the locals congregate at the Malt Shop in Point Loma.

Schneider Racing Cams are located down off Marina Blvd, and is always a fun stop for some of therir infamous maltese cross stickers. Hot Rod and Custom Stuff is up in Escondido and from hat I understand, is a nice stop to check out.

The Junkyards are pretty much picked over, but if your up for a drive, there is a old truck bone yard out in Campo (90 mins or so east). Theres a neat old restored train line out there too thaty will take you on a 10 mile ride on an old train on restored tracks.

Oh, and don't forget TJ, you'll want to load up on Mexican Blankets if that's your thing. If I think of anything else, I'll post it later.

Oh yeah, and if you really get a hankering for working on cars, you can alwaysa come on by on a Saturday and help me block my shoebox http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, well I tried......

Send me a PM if you want to try to hook up....

If you get a chance, go to a small bar called The Tower, on Univesity near Euclid. The place has great atmosphere and plenty of cold, cheap beer. Plus, there are usually a few cool machines in the parking lot, as the place is owned by Mick from the Deacons (a super nice guy). Like their slogan says, "Stop in and have a drink".

Great stuff...there's no way I can break loose enough from my family to get to Bonneville though...man, does that sound better than a huge wedding with rented tuxes...
BTTT as I continue to troll for the many places and events that are also better than a wedding...

Hopefully, Carlsbad Raceway will still be running by then- I just traveled Palomar Airport Road, and from the entrance road south, all the way to Palomar Airport, it's graded, the dozers were moving dirt, and I hear tell that the electricity, due to the construction work, has been cut off...I know we have been hearing "this is the last year for Carlsbad Raceway" since the property sold in '85 or '86, but this time, the dozers are there...Damn I hate to see that place go, I remember watching Gas Ronda, Sox & Martin, Dick Landy, Arnie Beswick, Don Nicholson.... ;-( ;-(
