No, people didnt use them, thats why its still new in the box. There were millions of aftermarket accessories made but most of them were rarely ever seen in use.

.....obviously, you have never been in FL when the "Love Bugs" are swarming???? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I can't believe that 4 people bid on it!!
JimV
People DID use them.
When I pumped gas after school and on Saturdays', a long time ago, I saw many of those on various cars.
Most were used in highway travels.
Most had the canvas water bags on the front bumpers, too.
the bug screens were on a lot of travelers cars from western states.

Looks better than those vinyl covers all the cars at York have on their front sheetmetal!

I think it'd be cool to see a custom Olds drive up to an event with a back seat full of suitcases and that thing covered in bug squash. Reminds me of the home-built versions we saw on the Alaska highway... electrical conduit uprights with a 5' tall run of rabbit wire strung between them like a volleyball net. That'll keep the rocks off yer windshield.

It's like those cupholders from the 70s that slip down inside the window and hang the drink on your door panel... you just know they're gonna start re-popping those to make the muscle cars "period correct." http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Finally an Idea for a new bussiness...market those babies to the 'Chainers cause they MIGHT hit a bug between the power Parking space and the enclosed trailer...OHHH & dont forget the large trailer size one, to protect the front of trailer! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All the old folks in FLA have them. Like Skate Fink says "Love Bugs". Talk about messy.
I run one on my Hot Shot Rig. It snaps onto the fasteners for the winter cover. I guess it just depends on where you live and how much you actually drive your car/truck.

No need--the streetrod of the future is going to be a hologram, solving many problems like this at once. Chainers will just set down their IPods in the power parking places, and boot up the latest ride. A download from Boyd will start at $100,000. Excuse me, gotta get down to the patent office...

Choprods, If you'd ever driven thru a salmon fly hatch along any of the rivers in my part of the country, you'd not only bid on that thing, you'd hope for a couple spares in the trunk. Picture 3" long juicy bugs aprox 1 per square foot flying along the roadway for a 10 mile stretch. Damned things make grasshoppers look like gnats. Hell, 90% of cleaning my car at events is getting rid of baked on bugs every time I drive out of town in the summer. Much better to get there, pop off the bug screen, stick it in the trunk while grabbing a cold one out of the cooler and check out the other guys cars while THEY clean off bugs! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I saw some home-made versions along the AL-CAN highway on a roadtrip up to the Yukon. It looked like some guys just pulled their screen door off their back porch and bolted it up to the front of their trucks.

One year too late. To bad it won't fit my '56 Olds.

Just be sure to make it from billet aluminum! Maybe you could mill some flames into them?
